The boat hits rock, a clatter echoing out as a few stones fell over. Toppling back into the river. Connor turns off the engine, the rain has washed most of the blood off James's face. He takes a deep breath before stepping out of the boat. Directly into the ankle-deep water, unfortunately soaking their shoes.

Neither of them speak, they just stand there. Looking at the Canadian shore in sheer disbelief. Knowing they truly made it, James pulls Connor into a messy kiss. His rain soaked hands holding the sides of his head.
"Where are we going to go now?" Connor asks as he pulls back from the kiss,
"I dunno. I think we should just find somewhere to sleep tonight."

James and Connor turn around only to find someone unexpected.
"Don't move a fuckin' muscle." Gavin says, somehow behind them on the shore. Had he been waiting in Canada? Or had he followed them without them noticing somehow?
"Please. Just let us go." James begs him, they've fought. They've fought hard to get here.
"You think this is about a job?" Gavin asks,
"What else would it be about?"

Connor scans Gavin. He's been severely injured, and he's apparently been fired from DPD. This seems more like a revenge thing over any law abiding citizen's do-gooding.
"Are you joking? For that little stunt in the office I should drown you."
"You gave me no choice! What was I supposed to do let you kill us both?!" James shouts,
"It would've made this a lot easier—"

Everything grew slow. Connor just watches, no longer thinking of probabilities. No more protocols or testings. He watches as Gavin pulls down on the trigger, a bullet just bursting out of the barrel and rushing towards James. Connor doesn't even think before grabbing him, spinning them around looking at James with a smile when the shots burrow into his back.

Connor falls down, blue blood staining his clothes. Gavin emptying the entire clip into his back. James watches as his partner falls over, a wide eyed and limp look to him. He grabs Connor's hand, holding him. Shaking him. Begging him to get up. Gavin watches. Telling himself he doesn't feel bad about what he just did.

James looks at the blue blood on his hands, shaking. The sound of Gavin behind him, he screams aloud. Suddenly, James jumps back. He tackles Gavin to the ground with a grunt. The two of them fall into the river, the ankle-deep water splashing around and soaking their clothes. James starts to wail on him, punching and beating his head when the detective swings a wet rock across his head.

The boy falls over, grabbing at his face as blood spills down from his nose. He stands back up, looking over at Gavin he finds them at a draw. The two of them staring each other down. With his hair wet and stuck to his forehead, James pulls out his knife. He presses the button, the blade pops out with a click.

Then Gavin comes running, charging James like a mad bull. Unable to react in time, he's knocked over into the water once again. The rocky bottom crashing into his back. With a hand on James's face and the other holding down the knife, he holds him under the surface. James groans, spitting out the cold water continuously flowing into his nose and mouth. He wedges his foot between the two of them and kicks Gavin off of him, immediately following it up by swinging his knife across his face.

The detective falls back, holding his face and looking at the blood that's smeared onto his hand. James approaches him again, his knife held out with red dripping down the blade. He thrusts his knife towards Gavin's gut, but he holds back James's arm.

Pushing back and forth, the boy is then pulled into a hit. Gavin's fist crashing into his head. The detective has long forgotten about his job. This was personal. The older man tries to punch him again. James ducks out of the way and follows up by slicing open the man's thigh. The fabric of his jeans split as the interior of his leg is exposed. Pink and red muscle. Gavin groans, grabbing James by the back of his head and sending his cut open leg into his gut.
