TW: Verbal Abuse, Violence

                                                 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ April Prelude ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

"Why can't you be like October?" April's mom screamed, throwing April's favorite diamond stud earrings in the toilet. She made a show of grabbing more of April's stuff, tossing, destroying, and breaking anything her hands could touch. 13 year old April set on the bathroom floor crying, begging for her mom to calm down and stop destroying her things.

"We bought these things for you! I will destroy it if I want!" Her mom turned on her, throwing one of April's makeup brushes at her. Luckily the metal bottom of the blush brush just hit her in the arm, not in the eye or anything. "You have a lot of nerve, you little bitch." Her mom continued to destroy things in her bathroom, screaming bloody murder and all kinds of insults at her. April sat shock where her mom tossed her.

To be honest, April wasn't exactly sure what she did that made her mom snap to this point. Before this mess started, she was sitting in her bed, complaining on her phone to her best friend about the surprise Algebra quiz they had to do. The next thing she knew, her mom was in her room, yelling and dragging her to the bathroom so April can watch her make up and jewelry get destroyed.

All her mom kept yelling at her was that she was a "demon's child". That the make up, her phone, her friends, her clothes were causing her to be a disappointment. The younger girl was not surprised at her mom's words, she was use to it. It was unwarranted in April's opinion though.

April wore normal clothes that other 13-14yo girls in her ninth grade classes didn't. She wore shirts that covered her boobs, shoulders and midriff, her pants didn't have holes, and her skirts and shorts touched the top of her knees. She did wear make up but it was not a demonic hobby, in the least. According to her mom's small jabs, April looked like a slut or attention whore when she wore it.

April did the bare minimal with make up, using lip gloss (no color or a color as natural to her own lips as possible ), nude glitter eye shadow and one swipe of mascara. She was barely on her phone and only spent some time talking to her friends after school. She never used it in school. Her friends were awesome. They didn't pay attention to boys and were pretty much seen as nerds.

She was a proper kid. She got straight As all her life. She didn't get in trouble with teachers, making sure to be the perfect little teachers pet. She was always too scared of the constant berating and comparisons to her siblings to step a toe out of line. Especially her 17 minute older, twin brother October. In her parents eyes, he was perfect. In her mom's eyes, all her siblings were better than April.

It didn't help that she had a lot of siblings to be compared to, and that they all were succeeding in different aspects of life. Her two older sisters, November (23yo) and January (21yo), were in college, both studying science in different fields. They didn't have time to come visit, let along talk to April. Her two older brothers, February (30yo), July (28yo) were married with high end jobs. They each had wives and kids, and they lived in different cities. They reached out just as little.

She stayed with her dad, her mom, her twin, October, and her younger siblings, March (10yo) and May (7yo). Her dad, August, was barely home though. He was the founder and CEO of a big worldwide company and spent most of his time out of country for business.

Her mom, June, didn't act out when he was home, keeping the insults sugar coated under concern. April was afraid to tell him the things she would say or do when he wasn't there. In her eyes, he would agree with her mom over her any day. After all, he also compared her with October sometimes. He just wasn't as bad.

April snapped out of her daze at the sound of the toilet flushing. She stared in horror as jewelry, make up and nail polish that her mom had dumped out got destroyed. Some went down, but of course not everything did. Obviously the items caused the toilet to get flooded and April watch the water spill over, onto the bathroom floor.

"Mom," April stammered out, eyes moving to the woman. Her mom stood staring at the toilet and floor, taking in the mess. At April's voice, her eyes snapped to the girl. April watched as her mom's eyes filled with contempt, a cruel snarl on her lips. It immediately caused April to shut her mouth, subconsciously scooting further away from her just in case.

"Don't call me that, you little slut." Her mom yelled at her. "You're so fucking worthless. I'm surprised just how disappointing you can make me every. single. day." Her mom turned away from her, strolling to her room. April set stunned in her place, listening to her mom shuffle around her room. She could hear her mom muttering words to herself, rumbling through drawers, bags, baskets, and her closet.

April stayed in her corner, face buried in her knees and hands over her ears to block out the vindictive woman storming around her room. She didn't know how long she sat there.

Luckily any minute now, her mom should be heading out to pick up March, May and October from after school activities. And April would be free when eyes were on them.

April wasn't allowed to do those things. Her mom had convinced her dad that she needed April's help at home. April knew it was only so she can keep in eye on her and verbally insult her when she felt like it.

She wished to be anywhere other than here. She wished she had anywhere else to go. She wished she can have someone who looked happy to see her come in the door, unlike her mom who either ignored her or gave a snarky remark. She wished she had someone who praised her successes and achievements. She wished to not be compared to others. She wished she had someone to protect her.

But she didn't.

Instead she was stuck in this constant loop of hell. Probably for eternity.

'Honestly', she thought bitterly as she listened to her mom's anger wreck her life, 'fitting for a demon'.

Helloooo

Back when I was writing Midnights,  back in 2022, I had a few different chapters and excerpts that I scrapped or changed. This is one of them.

This chapter is actually the original prelude for Midnights, but I decided to change it and use this for a sequel called Daylights, Midnights Part 2, that touches base more on April's childhood and family and her life coming to Los Santos.

As you can tell, it's way heavier than the vibe I went for in Midnights, which I touched on very briefly I think, or never went into much detail about. Since I went for a slightly diff vibe, this is a big part of why I didn't go with it.

Daylights was going to be a lot more emotional since it touched based on a childhood and family April ran away from.

I don't know if I will write that story, so I'm just throwing this out there for now. And I may come back to it, but I don't think so.

Hey, if anyone has any inspo from it at all, I'll love to see what you do with it.

Side note: Still working on Petty Tendencies! It's coming!

Side, Side note: May be just dropping scrapped or unfinished 'one shots' for stories in the future. We shall see.

You've reached the end of published parts.
