THE COLD DRY AIR OF DRIFTMARK sent chills through Rhaella's body. The week took an unfortunate turn for the worse when Kingslanding was notified that Daemon Targaryen's late wife Lady Laena had perished in childbirth. Truthfully, Rhaella had not known that Daemon was even married.Rhaella was standing besides Jace and Baela. She had given the little girls he condolences. She could not fathom what it was like to lose your mother let alone at such a young age. "Guys Ill see you later im going to go check on my brother." Ella let go of Baela's hand and ran over to her twin brother Aemond who stood all alone, away from the other kids. Ella often felt bad for her brother, he was mistreated by all of the boys even Luke. She didn't quite know why the Velaryon boys liked Aegon over Aemond. Of course Aegon was plenty fun but Aemond had things going for him too.
"What are you doing all alone brother?" Rhaella grabbed his arm before he had the chance to escape her.
"I didn't know this woman. Why should I care for her funeral." Cold as always Aemond answered.
"Well.. your right you didn't really know her but wouldn't you rather have company. It would be less boring that way." Rhaella tried to lighten the mood.
"If the company is who I think it is than no I would not." Aemond rolled his eyes.
"What about my company?" The small girl squeezed his hand trying to lift his mood.
"Maybe your company isn't so bad."
Baela had woken Ell up frantically saying something about how she saw a person riding her diseased mothers dragon, Vhagar. The oldest and biggest dragon. Ella was very interested in Vhagar, especially when her learned the fierce Visenya was her first rider.
"Jace what are you doing?" Little Luce whispered to his elder brother in confusion as to why they were all up. Ella grabbed onto little Rhaena's hand.
"It's him!" Baela declared as the group of children were faced with Aemond.
It couldn't be Aemond Ella was sure of it. How could such a small boy of his age claim a dragon such a Vhagar? And a boy with experience at that.
"It's me." Aemond said arrogantly
"Vhagar is my mothers dragon." Little spoke obviously upset.
"Your mothers dead." Aemond said cruelly. Ella was upset, she hadn't know her brother could be so heartless.
"Vhagar has a new rider now." He smirked
"She was mine to claim" Rhaena stomped her foot. She was right, the girl was the only one without a dragon. Her mother had wanted the dragon to be passed onto her.
"Than you should have claimed her!" Aemond yelled "Maybe your cousins can find you a find to ride." Aemond referred to the harsh prank the boys had played on him. A prank Aegon pulled on him. "Would suit you."
"Enough with this!" Ella yelled at her twin crying to deescalate the situation at hand.
Rhaena charged at Aemond causing Ella to scream. The smaller girl wasn't a match for Aemond. She didn't think her brother would lay a hand on a girl though. Baela stood forward and punched Aemond straight across the face. Well deserved.
"Come at me again and I'll feed you to my dragon!" Aemond said after punching Baela across the room.
"Aemond this isn't like you please stop." Ella pleaded with the boy. to which Aemond pushed her to the ground with ease.
Jacaerys charged at Aemond getting quite a few hits in before Aemond managed to kick the boy across the ground next to Ella. "Are you ok?" Ella said with worry. That was when she noticed Aemond holding Lucerys by the collar of his tunic with a rock in his hand. Aemond was really going to kill his own kin. Ella felt sick to her stomach. She didn't know how she could forgive her brother for this. Even if he didn't go through with it. "You don't have to do this" Ella sobbed.
"You will die screaming in flames just as your father did. Bastards." Aemond spoke of Hardin strong. He knew that insult would sting the most. That's exactly why he said it.
"You are sick in the head Aemond." Ella tried to grab onto Aemond hand but he didn't move a muscle.
"My father is still alive." Poor Luce cried.
"He doesn't know does he, Lord Strong?" Aemond sneered at Jace.
Jace took out a blade. Ella gasped unsure of where this was going and ran to her younger cousins hugging the girls. Wanting to stay out of knifepoint. Aemond managed to knock the knife out of Jaces hands. He picked up the same heavy rock and aimed it at Jacaerys head. The only thing Jace could think of to defend himself was to throw sand in his attackers face. Ella let out a sigh of relief, believing that it was all over now. Her breathe of relief was short lived as she watched Luke pick up the blade and bring it to Aemonds face.
"don't." Rhaella yelled, but it was already too late the younger boy had already gouged her brothers eye out."Aemond."Rhaella spoke. Running over to her brother. She knew he started it and he was wrong. Nothing could change that but she had a endless amount of love for the boy. She believed she had understood him.
"Cease this at once! Get away!" A guard said attending to Aemonds aid.
DURING THE AFTERMATH OF THE BRAWL and the family's argument Ella found herself sneaking off into Aegon's room. "Aegon" she shook she brother awake.
"What is it." He said annoyed turning to face her.
"I'm sorry mother slapped you, and that Aemond blamed you." The little girl frowned and scooted into Aegon's bed without permission.
"That's what you woke me up to say." Aegon couldn't help but slightly laugh at the girls pure heart.
"I'm also scared." She looked down
"Why?" Aegon yawned
"Aemond was like a different person I've never seen before. He was cruel." Ella recalled the earlier event.
"I'm glad I wasn't there.." aegon joked but felt bad when the girl frowned. She wasn't in the mood for jokes. "He might be changing but you'll get used to it. You still have me." Aegon patted her head. He tried his best to comfort her. He was never comforted himself so he wasn't sure if he was doing the best. Rhaella nodded, tears welling up into her blue eyes. "Do you want to sleep in here tonight?" The prince felt bad and hated to see her cry.
"Yes please." Rhaella shifted closer to Aegon, resting her head onto his shoulder. Only a few moments later she had fallen asleep.
