Intermission by Strawberry Guy<3

Felix wasn't expecting to feel so violently protective over Delilah. Not anymore. But when her cold hand clung onto his arm, when he turned to see her familiar lips looking on the verge of blue as she shook, it felt innate to rush to her side. He felt almost manic as he spoke to the driver, bargaining for him not to drive off despite his annoyed attitude toward the obviously drunk family.
'Listen, mate-' He snapped, 'My- My girlfriend is pregnant and freezing, I need to get her home. I know we've caused you trouble but this will definitely cover it.' He handed the driver all the cash he had in his trouser pocket.
The driver agreed to take them home and Felix rushed to get Delilah into the warmth of the car. In his worry to get her buckled in and on the way home, he hadn't even realised his hand was brushing across her bump. It stopped him in his tracks. He couldn't move his palm from her stomach, he was stuck there. It felt as thought he was waiting for something to happen. And when nothing did he still couldn't move, it was like he had to stay connected to her.
The feeling was overwhelming. He didn't want to connect. Not with her, not with anyone. Connecting meant feeling. Feeling everything. And that was too painful, he couldn't take more pain. So he forced his hand away from her and went to tell the others they were leaving without them. He didn't really care for their replies, he sure as shit wasn't going to keep Delilah in the cold no matter how cold they were. Luckily the wine made them warm in body and in spirits and the family agreed that they should go ahead.
Felix couldn't take his eyes off her in the car ride back to the hotel. He was overcome with emotion to protect her as he watched Delilah shaking, her eyes focused on her lap. It was strange, he didn't even feel awkward around her. He felt pulled toward her by some invisible magnetism. He wanted to ask her so many things in that moment. Even the little things like how her meal was and if she Copenhagen so far, if she slept as well as she normally does on the plane ride earlier.
Of course he wanted to ask the big questions too. He wanted to know what she was thinking about it all, about Olly, about the baby, about him. But he knew that would be too much and so he settled on just one question. A bleak and embarrassing excuse of a question, just so he could hear her voice.
'You alright?'
'I don't know what happened, really- I'm just so cold.'
Her voice was tired and uncomfortable. But it was her voice. Her soft, angelic voice that he had listened to for so many years now. The voice he would listen to chatter away with Venetia through his bedroom wall, for hours on end until the early hours of the summer mornings but that he would never ask to stop because it comforted him. It was the voice he played over and over in his head when he'd gone on the run saying 'I love you too, Felix'. The last words he heard come from her mouth before he left.
And at the thought of that day, the day everything changed, suddenly he didn't want to speak anymore. He didn't want to ask questions, he didn't want to know the answers.
'We'll be home soon.'
