Reading is one of the most prominent ways to learn and acquire knowledge, but this is not the only way. I'll explain to you soon briefly what, why, and how.
First of all, KNOW IT WELL, reading is not a hobby or an amusement activity. It's a kind of mental hard work. The outcome of reading (obviously knowledge) is achieved by suffering from mental pressure and hard work. It's also your must-need, like eating and sleeping, but who of us cares?!
Reading is indeed beneficent; it enlightens and guides us on the right path, consists of our personality, social skills, values, and morality, makes individuals enlightened and society civilized, changes our thinking and behaviors, increases our imagination, vocabulary, knowledge, and even our life expectations too.
But sometimes, ONLY by reading, you can't gain many things because experience matters. It never comes from self-learning; it comes from the teacher. A book is like a roadmap of the city of the knowledge that you have never been there, and a mentor is your tourist guide. This word may not apply to fiction reading, but sometimes fiction needs guidance to comprehend the plot, theme, character, and morals.
We shouldn't take reading lightly; reading isn't JUST reading anything; it has so broad and widespread outcomes depending on what we understand from reading. If we misread it, we won't benefit from reading. To not read is far better than to misread. And so the pity is that the Ummat, whose commanded to 'Iqra' (read) at first, isn't reading anymore!
Everybody knows that reading is badly necessary; we have to read to make a civilized society, and blah blah. But why can't the ship reach the port? It's not that Gen-Z is not reading books, but the problem is depending on self-help books and following self-learning methodology for knowledge and thinking consequences from these books. Therefore, we should combine reading and learning; self-help or self-learning makes us arrogant and ignorant.
Getting flow in reading will be challenging if we engage more with the virtual world, immoral and addictive sins. These are acts of ignorance, unpermitted entertainment. Knowledge is light, and ignorance is dark; both are united never.
We already wasted words for the foremost prevention to get flow in reading, but we can follow to get flow in reading too, if we:
• CONSIST an exact and serious mindset for knowledge, not reading. Because knowledge is your goal, reading is merely a medium to achieve it. A Mindset for knowledge is to have a humble, open, critic-accepted, honest, interrogative, and struggle-patient mind.
• For this, you have to have a zeal for knowledge. If you can't enjoy the taste of Knowledge and suffer with a smile for Knowledge—like a lover who suffers anything for his beloved with a smiley face—you'll never continue reading. Pursuit and effort on these two attributes first.
• After that you find your genre. But ahoy! Fantasy (not fiction) and so-called best-seller books are should read less. Their linguistic flow is click-bait and attractive, which makes your mind dull. As a newbie, you may choose memoirs, travel, classic literature, wisdom words, and stories. After that, history, natural science, politics, philosophy, And so on. And the reader must have a compass to distinguish between admirable and reprehensive books and authors. You may benefit from book reviews. And we have to know how to read a book. Otherwise, our reading will be 'destroyed in seconds'!
• As mentioned above, self-learning (either by reading or something else) is harmful, just as sometimes only reading alone becomes dull. So, we have to need a study circle, where we can discuss what we and others read. Reading and discussing together gives us energy, refreshes our minds, and makes us interested in learning more from another's reading. Yeah, this is why we have a community like Bookaholics of Pabna!
