Guardian

She stood up and looked at Mike. Mike handed his umbrella to her.

Yuzuki: Who are you?

Mike: I should be asking you that.

Yuzuki: I'm Yuzuki Shiratori.

Mike: I see, I'm Mike Jones. What's wrong?

Yuzuki suddenly burst into tears. Mike held her calmly to comfort her. Yuzuki told Mike the whole story.

Mike: I see, you should head home now.

Yuzuki started walking towards her house. Misa appeared beside Mike.

Misa: Everything went as we planned. Possessing Kaito was a hard task, though. But because of our plans, she got hurt.

Mike: To gain something, a person must lose something. We've got to solve a greater problem.

Misa: Since when did you become so philosophical?

Mike: Just now.

The next evening, it was Yuzuki's birthday, but she just sat alone in the restaurant. She was thinking about Mike, regretting not having had the chance to thank him. She wondered if she could meet him again and thank him this time.

The waitress came to her, and it was none other than Misa. Misa gave a friendly smile to Yuzuki.

Misa: What would you like to order, ma'am?

Yuzuki: Um, just a coffee, please.

Misa: Got it.

After drinking the coffee, Yuzuki looked outside the restaurant and noticed it was getting dark, indicating the sun had set. She decided to go home. She started walking towards her home but found that construction work was going on the road. She chose the second way to her house, which was a very isolated place, with barely any people there.

The lights were sparse. She entered an alleyway, but there was a strange feeling there. She felt as if someone was watching her. Suddenly, she saw a man standing in front of her. It was a familiar face; it was Kaito. Yuzuki tried to avoid him, but Kaito stepped in front of her.

Kaito: Yuzuki-san, I want to apologize for that day.

Yuzuki: Please let me go.

Kaito (in an evil tone): I said I want to apologize.

Yuzuki was now scared. She felt some people were behind her and realized she was surrounded by muscular men, probably Kaito's friends.

Kaito: Girls like you deserve to be punished.

The men came closer to her. She tried to run, but Kaito grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground. Kaito licked his lips. Yuzuki started crying.

Kaito moved towards her and bent to her, and he kissed her. Yuzuki bit the tongue of Kaito and Kaito screamed with pain.

Kaito - You damn bitch.

Yuzuki - Leave me alone, please, I'm begging.

Kaito walked towards her and punched her. She fell to the ground. She had no hope left. They tore her clothes apart, and she was surrounded by men. They didn't listen to the screams of Yuzuki.

Man 1 - Look at her cherries, I can't wait to press them.

Man 2 - Look at that bitch whore, she deserves to be punished.

Rape?

A leg came flying and struck the head of a man, sending him crashing into a nearby wall. Mike arrived on the scene.

Kaito - Who the hell are you, bastard?

Mike - That question has been posed to me more than a thousand times.

Kaito - Just tell me, who the hell are you?

Mike - I'm nobody.

Two other men attempted to approach Mike, but he punched both, breaking their jaws. They collapsed to the ground. Mike smiled.

Kaito charged at Mike with a punch, but Mike halted it with one hand. He whispered in Kaito's ear.

Mike - Recognize the difference between a mere human and a shinigami.

Mike's eyes turned red, and Kaito lost consciousness, tumbling to the ground. Mike maintained his calm demeanor.

Mike - Are you okay, Mrs. Shiratori?

Yuzuki - Yes... A-Are you not human?

Mike continued to smile calmly as Misa approached.

Yuzuki - Waitress?

Mike - Yes, she works as a waitress in the nearby cafe; she's my girlfriend.

Misa (in mind) - Girlfriend, seriously? You could have called me sister or something.

Mike (in mind) - Shut the fuck up.

Yuzuki - So she's your girlfriend.

Mike - Yes, actually, we both are shinigami, belonging to a lower class of spirits known as Controlium. I think we should call the police for these bastards.

Tears welled up in Yuzuki's eyes, and she ran to Mike, embracing him and crying.

Yuzuki - Thank you for helping me. You are my guardian. I was really scared. You're like a god to me. I'll do anything for you.

Mike smiled calmly.

Mike - Anything?

Yuzuki - Yes.

Mike - Then be prepared.

Yuzuki suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach and discovered that Mike had stabbed her. Mike smiled as Yuzuki collapsed to the ground and died.
