Time has passed, and Lagertha is seen drawing water from the well with her ten-year-old daughter, Gyda, by her side. Lagertha, despite her reputation as a shield-maiden, remains a slim and slight figure with long braided hair. As she carries the bucket back towards the house, the scene reveals the various animals in timbered pens, indicating that this is a working farm. There are also a couple of small wooden boats by the water. Two large and hairy hunting dogs playfully chase after a ball thrown by Hildr, adding a sense of liveliness to the yard.

Lagertha returns to refill the buckets and stops as she sees Hildr trying to retrieve the ball from the dogs who refuse to give it up.

Lagertha (laughing): They love that ball too much to let it go.

Hildr: Yeah, but it's more fun if I throw it to them.

Hildr finally catches the dog named Harry and snatches the ball out of his mouth. Lagertha smiles at them and then looks over at a neighboring property, where the householder is leaving, riding a small wiry horse up the steep trail behind the houses. She glances back at her daughter.

Lagertha: Gyda, feed the goats.

Hildr stands up and brushes off the dirt from her clothes. She knows that today is the day when Ragnar had decided to take Bjorn to get his arm ring. She also knows that Lagertha will try to withhold the idea. After dusting herself off, she follows Lagertha.

Inside Ragnar's house, Lagertha enters carrying the bucket, only to find Ragnar putting a thick woolen coat over the shoulders of his twelve-year-old son, Bjorn, who is now a handsome and strong-looking youth. Lagertha stops and looks at them.

Lagertha: What are you two doing?

Hildr enters the house

Ragnar: I'm taking Bjorn to the Thing.

Lagertha: Not yet. He's not old enough.

Ragnar: He's twelve years old.

Lagertha: Take him next year. Next year is soon enough.

Ragnar's smile fades slightly as Lagertha storms out of the room in frustration. Hildr, sensing the tension, takes a deep breath and speaks up, her voice filled with concern.

Hildr: Couldn't you have at least told her before making such a big decision like this?

Ragnar, feeling the weight of Hildr's words, rolls his eyes in frustration. He understands her perspective but also stands firm in his belief.

Ragnar: You know very well that I was his age when I received mine. You were even there.

Hildr's expression softens as she remembers that significant moment in their lives. She recognizes the validity of Ragnar's point but still feels the need for more transparency and consideration.

Hildr: So, this is about Bjorn.

Bjorn, turns to Hildr with a confident gaze, determined to assert himself.

Bjorn: I am more than ready to become a man.

Hildr's smile emerges, a mix of pride and concern evident in her eyes. She wants to support Bjorn's growth and independence while also ensuring his readiness for the challenges ahead.

Hildr: If that's what you think, then I won't stop you.

Her smile conveys her trust in Bjorn's judgment, but there is also a hint of caution. She wants to ensure that Bjorn is prepared for the responsibilities and expectations that come with manhood.

Ragnar suddenly smirks

Ragnar: Now If you don't mind , I have to go make your mother feel better.

Bjorn reacts with disgust to his father's remark.
