A Wilted Flower

There is a wilted flower lying in the grass.
Its leaves are crumpled up and dry,
Its petals are dark brown.

There is a wilted flower lying in the grass,
Crying because it's been betrayed by the sun and the rain.
They promised safety, nuturing, and everlasting life.
But they broke that promise.

There is a wilted flower lying in the grass.
It is all alone and desperately wanting a companion.
The wind blows, the rain falls, the sun shines, the birds chirp,
But the wilted flower doesn't care about any of that.

There is a wilted flower lying in the grass.
It is a little happier than before.
Another flower has been planted next to it,
A beautiful flower with brilliant petals,
And thick green leaves.
There is finally someone to talk, cry, scream, and laugh with.

There is a wilted flower lying in the grass, sobbing quietly.
Its beautiful companion has betrayed it, left it.
It should've seen it coming,
But it was so caught up in the fact that someone was actually paying attention to them.
They didn't want to fathom the possibility of heartbreak.
They needed loving.

There is a wilted flower lying in the grass, and that flower is me.
