I had a lot to say to Ivan since he already saw my reaction after seeing Dan - he definitely knew something was up, as I couldn't say a word on our way back home. He kept staring at me without saying a word.I dropped off at my gate and went straight inside without even turning to say a word to Ivan. When I got inside the room, my parents were standing at the entrance, seemingly already knowing I had returned and wanted to hear about how the audition went.
But I couldn't find the words to tell them. All I could think about was Dan and the way he looked at me. I didn't say anything as I walked to the door of my room. With the expression on my face, they could tell something was wrong, so they quietly moved away from the door. I locked myself in for hours, not coming out of my room because I didn't know what to tell my parents if they asked about my audition. I wasn't even sure if I had qualified. I was just so worried about my parents and Ivan. They all put in a lot of effort to support me, but everything was ruined because of Dan.
Why didn't I just pretend I didn't know him, I started to ask myself. After all, he had abandoned me in the past, so why did I run off the stage because of him?
I couldn't stop thinking about how stupid I acted at the audition, when suddenly my phone rang. It was an unknown number, so I picked up. My heart skipped a beat and my body went cold for a moment as the person hung up. I couldn't believe it.I was qualified to join the Rolling Stones, which was the name of the band I auditioned for. I didn't really know whether to be happy or sad about the news I received. Immediately, I grabbed my bag and rushed out. I sent a text to Ivan, telling him where to meet me.
After a while of waiting, Ivan arrived. I was overjoyed that Ivan could tell. He didn't ask why I was so excited. He just kept staring at me, smiling.
"I got qualified to join the band," I spoke up.
Ivan had a look on his face that showed he was truly happy for me. We ordered drinks to celebrate, and as we drank, Ivan asked, "But how?"
Ivan had seen everything that had happened during the audition and was wondering how I had gotten qualified. I couldn't bring myself to say anything about Dan to him, but I knew it was because of Dan, who was the band leader. I remained silent and just continued to drink.
"I'm proud of you, Suana," he said with a smile."
I will have to start going for rehearsals every day because the band has upcoming events they are preparing for," I said to Ivan when we met at school the next day.
"You are going to do well, Suana."
"I will make you proud," I said as I hugged Ivan.
I knew I was going to miss Ivan so much. I would only get to see him at school. We wouldn't be able to walk home together after school, and we wouldn't go out often like we used to.Since I was a new member of the band, I had to be there on time every day. I wished Ivan could go with me, but it was okay since we were always together in school.
As school closed, I rushed to the bus stop and took a bus to the hall where the band rehearsals took place. As I walked into the hall, someone called out to me from behind. It was Dan,so I stopped.
"Welcome to Rolling Stones, Suana," Dan said, stretching out his hand for a handshake. I didn't know what to say, so I just turned and continued walking to where the other members were seated. Dan didn't seem to care about my rude reaction and came to sit close to me.
One of the group members then asked that every new member should move forward to stand and introduce themselves. So, we all got up and moved, introduced ourselves, and then went back to our seats. They explained some rules and outlined what was expected during the rehearsals. At the end, the band leader stepped forward to welcome everyone and wish us luck. Dan kept staring at me as he talked, making me feel uncomfortable.
I began to worry about potential bullying or being mocked by the group members because of Dan. These thoughts raced through my mind. As soon as the band was dismissed, I got up and rushed out quickly.Unbeknownst to me, Dan followed me. Since it was already dark, I had to walk to a nearby bus stop.
"Suana," he called from behind. I stopped for a moment.
"What do you want, Dan?" I asked angrily as he reached where I was standing.
"I just want to walk you to the bus stop."
"Why?" I cut in.
"The street is not safe at night, and you are all alone. I thought I could at least make sure you are safe. Just doing it as the band leader, I don't have any other motive."I knew that was just an excuse, so I ignored him and kept walking. We reached the bus stop and waited for the bus. Dan asked if I was okay, and despite my wish for him not to speak to me, he continued with questions.
As we waited, my phone rang inside my bag. I checked and saw it was Ivan calling. I smiled and picked up. Engrossed in conversation with Ivan, I forgot that Dan was also present. I focused on catching up with Ivan, whom I had missed so much.Ivan suggested that he would come to pick me up, but I declined the offer because Dan was also present. I knew Dan wouldn't leave, even if I mentioned that someone else would pick me up. He would likely wait until I was gone. Plus, Ivan might misunderstand the situation since he had met Dan at the audition that day.
So, I told Ivan not to worry, that the bus had arrived. I assured him I would call him when I got home, and then he hung up. Dan then remarked, "I can see you are dating now," with a tinge of jealousy in his tone.
"Isn't that obvious?" I rudely responded.
"You finally got over me. I thought you wouldn't be able to move on after I left," he said with a hint of pride.
I kept quiet and simply laughed.
"Do you really not feel anything for me, Suana? Are you over me now?" he asked, now sounding calm.
"I have a boyfriend, Dan. You are just a part of the past to me now," I said firmly. He laughed and inquired how long I had been in the relationship.
At that moment, the bus arrived. Without waiting, I quickly boarded, leaving Dan behind. As the bus moved, thoughts swirled in my mind.
"Have I really gotten over him? Why does my heart still flutter when I see him?" I pondered to myself inside the bus.
"Come to your senses, Suana. You have Ivan, who loves you so much now. Stop thinking about someone who abandoned you," I said to myself sternly.
