With Tarlock gone Tenzin offered Korra a seat on the council. She loved being the avatar and fighting crime, but this venture would allow her to earn some money. Not that she cared much about it, but maybe she could save enough for a tiny place of her own, just for her and mako. Somewhere they could be together all the time, alone. That prospect excited her. Actual work? Not so much. It was dreadfully boring.
She got off after a long day and saw Mako taking on three would be thieves, finally, something interesting, she thought.
Mako was fighting with the three bandits and was doing a pretty good job of holding his own against them. 'It couldn't hurt to help,' she thought.
"Hey, need a hand?" Korra confidently leaped over towards where Mako was.
"I got this. I'll meet you at the apartment." He said while blasting fire toward his opponents.
"What? No, we can take them together!"
"Korra! Don't push yourself!" Hardly looking at her to argue, preoccupied with fighting. All three attackers were swordsmen, their fighting style was unusual, Mako had no experience fighting against swords. He managed to knock one of them unconscious by hitting him with a fire blast that slammed him against the wall.
Korra earth bent some rocks at the thieves, she was shocked when they sliced the rocks midair with their blades. "I can handle myself!" Korra's emotions and shouting distracted her. One of the assailants slashed her thigh clean from behind. "Ahhhhccc!" Korra screamed slightly before spinning around to face her attacker.
"Korra!" Mako managed to take down the second thief and handcuffed him swiftly. Korra was in a face-off with the last thief. She seemed to dodge his blades gracefully as he evaded all her attacks. Mako powered up and shot some lightning directly in front of him, not hitting him, but the blast sent him flying.
Finally, some other members of the police squad started showing up to deal with the criminals.
"Hey! I totally had that guy!" Korra turned around towards Mako with an irritated expression.
"Whatever," ignoring her earlier challenges in the fight, not wanting to fight with her himself, "let's just go home. My shift just ended."
"Alright, sssssssssss," Korra hissed at the pain emitted from her left leg as she took a step forward. She reached down to feel a wet spot in her pants, the blood has started to pool around the area.
"Korra, you're hurt." His voice oozing with concern.
"I'm fine, it's nothing." She attempted to dispel his worries.
"C'mon let me carry you, I don't want you walking like that." He was already grabbing her in his arms ready to carry her when she shoved him off. He was so stubbornly persistent when he wanted to be.
"Alright fine. You can carry me, just not like that." She didn't want everyone on the street seeing her being carried bridal style. The avatar being carried after a minor injury, how embarrassing. "Bend your knees a bit and I'll hop on your back."
Mako complied.
Mako carried her a few blocks like that before reaching his car and he let her down. Being a police officer came with many perks. A police car was one of them. Mako set her down and flipped the key to start the ignition.

It was nearly midnight by the time they reached Mako & Bolin's apartment. Korra winced at the pain radiating from her thigh.
"Didn't I tell you take it easy?"
Mako scolded, carrying her piggyback style. He was ever so slightly more protective since her disappearance.
