Mako had a special date planned, he even booked a swanky hotel downtown so they could get some privacy from prying eyes. Usually, they would spend all their time together in the apartment, but it was becoming increasingly annoying to have to plan their sessions around Bolin's schedule. Needless to say, Korra was excited.

Korra tied her hair up into a quick up-do. Korra threw on a new dress she got, well somewhat new. It was a floor-length light blue gown with delicate flowy material with some lotus lace motifs at the sweetheart neckline. She remembered buying this dress awhile back, she was saving it for a nice occasion as it was quite fancy. She didn't have any special event to wear it to, until now. She looked in the mirror and smoothed the wrinkles out with her hands.

Mako stood out front of the hotel waiting for her, where they planned to meet. He was dressed well, in a suit, with his hair slicked down. He smiled when he spotted her approaching. "Hello, beautiful." Korra was a bit late, but he didn't mind. His heart felt elated just being with her.

"Hey" Korra beamed back at him.

Mako placed a soft kiss on her cheek. "You look great."

Korra blushed, "So do you." Korra leaned in, nervously toying with his red scarf.

"Shall we?" Mako offered up his arm.

She hooked her arm with his and they walked through the large glass doors into the lobby. Korra took a moment to admire the scenery. The ceilings were high, vaulted with intricate details, a large hanging crystal light fixture, exotic plants all around, and there was a large pristine fountain in the middle of the lobby. Korra had never seen anything like this in the South Pole, in fact she had never been to a place so stunning anywhere before.

They made their way up the stairs to their suite, Mako opened the door to reveal a spacious room. It was furnished with a large bed, a couch, a radio, and some candles on the nightstand. As well as an adjoining bathroom. The highlight of the room though, was the balcony.

Korra made her way through the room, partially bewildered by the new pleasant surroundings. She made her way to a door to the balcony. She opened the door and stepped out.
The balcony was large but it was minuscule next to the marvellous view of the city. The sky was unnaturally clear that night, they could see many skyscrapers as well as the stars up above.

Korra stood on the balcony, putting her hands on the railing and leaning over to see more. Her eyes were wide in admiration.
"Wow! You can see everything from here. All the buildings, the lights, the water!" Her eyes shimmered in astonishment.
The moon was full and beautiful, reflecting its light onto the water and Korra's face. The light danced around from the ripples in the water.

Mako took a moment to drink in her beauty, this moment was perfect. He walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her and hugging her from behind, pulling her into him. His cheeks felt warm.
"It's beautiful," Korra said.
"Yes," Mako answered, "but its beauty pales in comparison to yours." Mako kissed Korra's cheek.
Korra blushed bashfully.
"Cover your eyes. I have a surprise."
"Okay, but I don't see how it could get any better than this." She covered her eyes giggling, imagining all the dirty possibilities.
"Okay you can open your eyes now."
Korra unveiled her eyes to see Mako down on one knee with a carved water tribe-style engagement necklace in his hand. Korra gasped, she was thinking of many things, but she had not expected this.
"Korra, I can't imagine my life without you. Please, marry me."
"Oh," the light in her eyes shimmered for a moment. Korra felt a bit choked up, the raw emotions were building inside her. She could feel some tears coming up, but she wasn't sad, oddly enough.
"You're crying?" Mako stood up, worried.
"Yes, because I'm happy," Korra said a bit hoarse, "yes, my answer is yes!" She smiled enthusiastically.
"Really?" Mako grinned just as wide as Korra. He picked her up in a tight embrace and spun her around. Korra giggled again, he set her down and placed another kiss on her cheek.
"Help me put it on." Korra turned around, lifting her hair out of the way of her neck with a hand.
Mako carefully placed the necklace around her neck and closed the clasp in back. Korra blushed a little at the feeling of Mako's fingers on the delicate skin of her neck.
