Today is the day everything was going to change. Today was the day that they set aside to be married before everyone they knew. Today would be the first day of their new lives, together. They decided to have a small wedding on air temple island with just close friends and family. Neither of them were too bothered with the idea of being a huge spectacle and the center of attention. So much of Korra's life has been spent in the limelight, being the avatar and all. She desired a personal ceremony with familiar faces only.
What they both really cared about most was spending as much intimate alone time as they possibly could.Mako was extremely excited about today, yet simultaneously he was feeling almost sick with worry. Mako was beyond nervous, teetering on the verge of nervous wreck. He paced back and forth.
"Relax bro, I'm sure Korra will be there. She loves you of course." Bolin tried to reassure his anxious brother as he fixed his bow tie.
"I know she loves me, but what if she doesn't love me enough to marry me?"
"Then she wouldn't have agreed in the first place, c'mon it'll be fine. You're just overthinking things."
"You're probably right, I'm just overreacting." Mako tried to calm his racing thoughts.
"Well, you probably should get out there now, everyone is waiting."
Mako took in a deep breath and made his way to the altar, Bolin was at his side as his best man. Korra was supposed to walk down the aisle any minute now, but each passing minute deepened Mako's feeling of unease.
About ten minutes had passed before she eventually appeared to walk down the aisle, mako could finally breathe. That anxious grip over his heart released. He almost sighed with relief. Assured, he smiled.
He couldn't help but admire korra in her blue wedding dress, she had chosen a more traditional water tribe style for her dress, she looked simply immaculate. Her long hair flowed loosely behind her and her face was radiant. He almost couldn't believe she was actually marrying him. He was so very lucky.
Korra reaches the arch, smiling as well. She takes Mako's hand and turns towards the officiant.
"I'm sorry I'm late, dress troubles," Korra whispered. She felt super guilty about being late, Mako was probably worried she wasn't going to come."It's alright, I'm glad you're here." Mako squeezed her hand and felt something else welling up in his chest, joy.

Mako slow danced with korra under the paper lanterns. He held her close and she rested her head on his shoulder, contented. He looked out at the scene, surrounded by family and friends dancing. The view of the ocean from here. And his beautiful wife in his arms, his wife. He closed his eyes, he wanted to remember this moment forever.
