'Shit,' She thought as she hissed, applying some concealer over her eye, 'It's your own fault,' Florentina told herself as she continued to apply the makeup to her face.
It was a small cut along her eyelid, but it was definitely a deep cut, and despite the fact that she'd been doing her make-up for years, she definitely was not prepared to be putting on makeup over a deep cut.
She'd only asked him if he was sure they were driving the right way, thinking that he'd taken a wrong turn, but it for some reason really aggravated Lawrence.
It wasn't unusual for the man to snap over anything, even something as small as a wrong turn, his temper was definitely something that was short-lived and easily agitated, which led to Florentina, always being on edge, she'd never know if any small thing would set him off next.
Her eyes were fixed in the small mirror, as she carefully applied the concealer, making sure to not to move her hand too quickly, while at the same time, being quick enough not to take forever to apply the product.
She had a lot of experience applying makeup, especially when she had to cover up a black eye, but the problem this time was that she had to cover her whole eye due to the cut and her eyelid had already swollen due to the cut itself.
"Mikey, you can go sit downstairs, you know," She told her nephew gently as he sat on her lap, just looking up at her.
Mikey looked up at her, his big eyes looking up at her, his hand going to touch her eyebrow just below the cut. He had no idea of the actual gravity of the situation, but Mikey always had a way of making things seem a little better, his small hand going up to rub against her eyebrow, almost soothing her in a sense.
"My precious boy," She gave the four-year-old a gentle smile, "Don't worry, okay?"
Mikey smiled and gave a tiny nod, his small hand going a bit under her brow to try and feel the cut underneath. He didn't seem scared or afraid of the small wound, and in a way, as odd as it seemed, his lack of worry put Florentina at ease a little bit, as if Mikey wasn't worried meant that things weren't as bad as she thought they were.
Florentina sighed, looking down at Mikey, she hoped that the small boy wouldn't have to grow up as fast as she did. He was just a little kid and had no idea of the hardships of the world, he was just a carefree kid, who was innocent in the most purest sense of the word. She hoped it would always stay that way for him, she didn't want him to grow up to see the cruelness of the world, she wanted him to keep that wonder in his eyes and the innocence of his words.
She ran a hand through his hair gently, his small little head tilting to the side, a sign that he wanted his auntie to keep going, so she continued and did just that.
She wanted to stay like that for as long as she could, just sitting there with Mikey, nothing else in her mind but her small little nephew.
"I don't like him, Aunty Tina," He mumbled to her as he stood up on her lap to bury himself in her neck.
"He's a nice man, Mikey, he just gets a little angry at your Aunty Tina sometimes," She rubbed his back soothingly as she looked at herself in the mirror.
She looked at herself in the mirror, her nephew burying his face into her neck, his small frame almost causing her to topple a little bit. Mikey was small, but he was also heavier than he looked.
Florentina rubbed her hands along the back of his head, just allowing him to bury his face into her, she would allow him to do whatever he needed to, to feel comfortable or safe around her in the current situation.
The little boy buried his head into her neck, nuzzling into her so he could get as close to her as possible. Florentina smiled a bit to herself, Mikey liked to do this whenever he felt the slightest bit uncomfortable, which was usually when he was around Lawrence, who liked to shout at Florentina on a constant basis over almost anything, he always thought he was asleep when he started yelling but Mikey heard, he heard everything.
