Fiery Mariana

Chapter 5

Mariana was still shocked at Sofia's big change.She used to be kind and caring but ever since she became popular all she cared about was herself . Mariana didn't even move an inch. She  only thought about the heated argument she had with Sofia. She cried herself to sleep ,her heart filled with overwhelming sadness.

The next morning Mariana woke up early and went to the beach. The calm waves and the refreshing breeze gave her peace. Mariana felt connected to the sea. She loved the beach  because her only good memories with her older sister was at that place . As she turned around to leave she saw someone on top the a mountain's edge.  Her heart was filled with fear as she quickly  ran to check what was happening .

When she finally reached on top of the mountain she saw who it was. It was Sofia with tears streaming down her eyes. "Sophie! What are you doing." She shrieked as her heart filled with fear ,not knowing what was going to happen next. Sofia didn't listen and tried to jump but Mariana screamed."No! Sofia it doesn't have to be like this. Can't we talk this out." Mariana asked. "Why! So that you can humiliate me again." Sofia said. Without thinking Sofia jumped off the cliff and killed herself. "Sofia! No! No no no no no no!" Mariana screamed in agony. She couldn't accept that her childhood best friend  had left like that. "Sophie please forgive me ." She sobbed . She cried bitterly and said "I killed my best friend over a boy.". She started hearing voices in her head. "You killed Sofia, such a disgrace." her mother's voice said. "You killed our daughter!". Sofia's parents voices said. "She's a good for nothing troublemaker and criminal. She'll never be loved." Everyone's voices echoed in her head.

"No I didn't kill her , I didn't kill her." She chanted continuosly as she went home tramautized. Everyone in her neighbourhood thought she had gone mad. Mariana came home looking petrified. "Mariana! aren't you supposed to be in school, ai this child." Said her Mom. " Look mother I'm not in the mood to argue right know." Said Mariana with a distressed expression on her face. Mariana's Mother noticed something wrong with Mariana and she became concerned. "What's troubling you Mariana?." She said in a more serious tone. " Look mother I didn't mean to-it was mistake. I-I-I-I didn't  n-know thhhh-that ..."Mariana started to have a panick attack. Her Mom hugged her and started to comfort her. " I didn't mean to mother . I didn't mean to." Mariana cried bitterly. " Calm down ,calm down . Everything is going to be okay." Camilla said trying to calm her down. When Mariana was finally calm down Camilla asked her what happened. Mariana told Camilla everything that had happened at the beach. "I wish I could have done something to stop her ." She said after she told her mother everything. "It was not your fault sweetie." She said reassuring her. "She just couldn't cope with everything that happened. You know about her dark past. The thought of going back just terrified her." Camilla said. "Can I stay home tomorrow? I don't feel like going school." She asked. "Fine but you have to go to school the day after." Camilla said sternly. She told Mariana to go get some rest while she figured out how to break the news to Sofia's parents.

Mariana couldn't get any rest.All she could think about was Sofia. She wanted to at least give her best friend a proper funeral. She thought of ways to find Sofia's body but couldn't deny the fact that she couldn't swim. Mariana had made up her mind. "After all I've put my friend through it's the least I can do is give her a proper funeral." She said.

During dinner Mariana told her mother about what she wanted to do for Sofia. "Mariana! Are you crazy?" Said Camilla. "I know it's crazy mother but it's the least I can do for Sophie." Mariana responded.
"If we go and tell the police about everything that happened ,they will think that you murdered her." Camilla said worried. "Mother please Sofia is my best friend. Let's do it for her parents." Mariana pleaded. "Mariana you know that you and I can't swim and calling the police is not an option." Camilla responded. Mariana feeling defeated had no choice but to accept it. "Your right Mother. Goodnight." Mariana said with a big frown on her face. Camilla couldn't bear to see Mariana in this state. She knew she had no choice. "It's time. I've been running away from this but I can't anymore." Camilla said. "But my daughter will not be used as a sacrifice. Her only purpose will be to find Sofia's body and that's it." Camilla said.
