youthful, bright, brilliant. usually, these adjectives were found on his report cards, telling the story of a boy he used to be. craving the comfort of his home, not with the memories it brought. he sat on the couch, watching his friends playing video games. of course he had to play, he had to try to..
kim seungmin; second youngest, second worst. he firmly believed that worst person was woojin, nobody could be worse than a person who promises you the world and then leaves you as if nothing ever happened. what happened to the memories? the times spent together? was that all a façade? maybe, maybe not.. he may never know.
he sighed quietly as he thought. people leaving, he was used to it. seungmin remembered those times. elementary school, middle school, high school; he'd never made his friendships last. his thoughts were solely focused on his studies. more appreciation, more credit given. the moment of raising his hand in class, seeing the teacher's smile; seungmin loved it. friendship was hard.
especially when they left him alone.
middle school was the hardest time. kids just coming out of puberty, their thoughts and beliefs reflected in their friends. seungmin was a boy of many words. his thoughts and feelings strongly indented in his mind. it was what his parents had taught him, it was expected of two famous lawyers after all. that's why he was surprised with himself when he joined their group.
at first, they were chill. it was simply a five or six person friend circle, everyone sharing everything with each other. seungmin was quick to find out that baseball was not as popular as he thought it was. neither was his music. if his parents were there, they would have told him to stick to his verdict, but he didn't. why? was it because they looked at him with disapproval whenever he talked about home runs? or because of their disgusted expressions whenever day6 was mentioned?
seungmin was the most conflicted he had been for a while. it wasn't like him to change himself for a few people who's didn't even matter, but the thought never really left his mind.
'am i that bad that nobody wants to befriend me?'
the thoughts only contained to grow as he was ignored at school, nobody volunteering to be his partner, the empty seats beside him at lunch, birthday invitations being distributed to everyone but him. his former friends now barely spared him a glance. so, this was friendship, huh? seungmin would rather stick to himself.
high school wasn't any different. he began to excel even further in school, catching the attention of a few college students. a few of them were nice, recommending books for research and helping his sometimes. the others, not so much. they were like most other people seungmin had met before. nice on the outside but their real personality being worse than their exterior. he knew how to deal with such people so he pushed them away. after all, he was used to it.. wasn't he?
not quite apparently. his meeting with three boys changed the way seungmin thought. about himself and others. he expected them to walk away after he rejected them for the fifth time in the library. what he didn't expect was them to offer him a trip to the café. he had agreed, hesitantly. these people were going to leave sooner or later, there was no point in getting attached.
then why was it so hard to leave? why did it feel different this time? why, why-why did he want them to stay?
he took the controller jeongin handed him, smirking slightly as he saw the game felix had picked. of course, he was the one and only mario kart champion, no way in hell was he backing down now. after all those years with felix, jisung and jeongin; his sassy personality had been sort of revieved. now, he couldn't go even one day without making a weird sarcastic comment. which was why he loud out a loud angry scream when he was beaten at his game; felix laughing loudly at his loss. he smiled at the scene.
jisung shot down the stairs, panting heavily as he had raced down. the three stared at him and then burst out laughing when they saw his state. "guys it's not funny, s-shut up!"
seungmin's smile brightened up the room. his laugh was the loudest. nobody would have guessed that this was the anti social guy from a few years ago. he stared at his friends and felt a warmth in his chest.
'either they're going to love me or leave me"
and seungmin had never been more confident in his answer before.
