The two began to battle... or at least Beth did. She began to strike Tyr with the sword and spear. He stood there motionless, letting her strike him. For a few seconds, she didn't understand what he was doing, but she soon understood. He was telling her that he could attack him as much as she wanted, he would be fine.
"Sorry, why are you not using your sword?" Beth asked.
"Your mother uses a spear for the most part," He explained as he began to fight back "Training you this way seemed like a more effective route."
He raised the spear above his head and swung the sharp blade at his opponent's head. She ducked under the attack and rolled away when he stabbed down at her back. She got back up and jumped away from another stab to her head. When she got up, she dive rolled out of the way of another stab. She got up and began to fight back once again. She swung her sword at Tyr's head, but he covered himself with the shield. Beth continued to try and break his guard with the sword, but the shield wouldn't budge. She used a shield bash of her own to knock his shield up so she could get an opening.
"Well, I didn't catch you sleeping, did I?" Tyr asked as he leapt away from a stab to his chest from her spear.
When he landed, Tyr's spear's tip began to glow with brilliant golden magic. He pointed the spear at Beth and fired a swirling quartet of golden spheres at her. They spun until they merged into a bigger spinning sphere and continued flying at Beth. Since it wasn't an attack that moved very quickly, it wasn't too hard for her to side step the strike. She threw the spear at his head, but he caught the attack, and leapt up into the air. Just before he began to fall back to the ground, he threw the weapon back at her. She caught the weapon, spun around, and threw it at Tyr once again. The God of War jumped away from the spear and then leapt toward her. Tyr was moving too fast for Beth to dodge so she just put her shield up. When the tip of Tyr's spear impacted her shield, it nearly shattered as its wielder was sent flying back.
"Always keep your guard up," Tyr reminded her as she got back up and he used his power in the arena to fix her shield.
She ran at him again and yelled "Yeah! Same to you!" She tried to bring her blade down at his shoulder, but he stabbed his spear into the ground, and used its power to create a blast in the ground that threw her back "Urgh... what the?"
"Come on." He stabbed at her head, but she dodged away, quicker than she had before "Yes! Deftly done." he stabbed his spear into the ground and created a ring of his golden power around himself.
Before she could react, he shifted his spear, and created a powerful golden blast which threw Beth backwards. She landed on her shoulder and rolled back up. The blast also caused part of the ground to crumble in front of Tyr, showing only a small fraction of his power. She let out a few heavy breaths and turned to see Tyr standing in a guard again. She ran at him and tried to swing at his head which he knocked her sword out of her hand. He dematerialized both the spear and shield and grabbed her by the neck.
"If your mother does this, what will be your response?" He asked, to which she responded by striking his elbow to loosen his grip and followed that strike up with a punch to his jaw to make him let go entirely "Good, yes! Now you're getting it." He leapt a few feet away and asked "But how do you deal with multiple opponents?" With that, he created copies of himself with all faced Beth.
"What the...?" They stabbed their weapons into the ground and used a wind vortex to pull her to the real Tyr "Fine!"
When he was within her range, Beth slammed her shield into his nose. He stumbled back and smiled as he wiped the trickle of blood from his nose. He looked back and nodded before swinging his spear's blade at her head. She rolled away from the attack and while he dragged the weapon's blade across the ground, it ignited.
"What the hell?"
"I'll explain after this," He told her while stabbing his blade into the ground and sending sparks flying in all directions.
Beth had to roll away to not get burned by the sparks, but the more she thought, the more she realized. He seemed to be a master of the natural elements. For a God of War, it seemed like a strange set of powers, especially compared to Ares and her mother. Before she could attack, he pulled the spear's tip out of the ground, and swung it at her stomach. Beth ducked under the attack and he spun around to gain power for his next swing. She got up and his spear's pole struck her in the side, just below the ribs. She stumbled back and purposely fell back to avoid Tyr's third strike. When she got back up, he used a wind blast to launch himself into the air. He spun around and threw an ice shard down at Beth. The Demigoddess caught the projectile and when he jumped back again, she threw it at him. Tyr leapt over the frozen spike and tossed a fireball down at his much younger opponent. When she jumped back, he spun, and ignited his spear again. As he began to descend back to the ground, he threw the bladed weapon at Athena's daughter. She rolled back and when it landed, the blade split the ground with a long crack. Tyr's signature golden power rose up from the depths of the split and Beth backrolled away before it exploded. But instead of exploding, the light just died down, and Tyr leapt up to the top of the door.
"Elizabeth, listen to me. A warrior in doubt is their own worst enemy," He told her as she began to battle copies, created when Tyr used his minimal power over the element of light to refract his own self down into the battlefield "Tell me, what is it that fills your soul with doubt?"
"The fact that I know I do not have the power to defeat my mother!" She called up in response "Using only the powers she had bestowed upon me would only lead to my defeat! But then again, it is the way it will go."
"Having trouble with an opponent is unavoidable in a war," Tyr told her "However, you have something she doesn't. Her warriors follow her, but they don't put their faith in you like your friends do."
"So, what you are saying is we need to fight her together?"
"In a sense, yes. But the physical battle must be between you and her alone, that is the only way you'll ever be free of the fear she has put into you."
"What can I do if she knows all my powers?"
Tyr got up from where he sat and told her "Give her ones she's unfamiliar with." He leapt back into the battle and the duplicates disappeared "Now, let's see what you've figured out."
He stabbed his spear into the ground and destroyed part of the ground. Beth was thrown backwards and crashed through one of the multiple pillars. She deconstructed, and then was rebuilt on the other side of the arena. What she found when she got back up... was not what she had expected. Tyr had used his power over earth to split the ground into several segments. He noticed she was back and began to slash waves of ice at Beth. She ducked, ran, and rolled away from the attacks before being hit with a fireball. The sphere of flames blinded her temporarily, but she could still use all of her other senses. She could hear him create more balls of energy and when they flew toward her, she ran toward them. He dove over them, rolled, and then leapt away from Tyr. He was running at her with his spear held out, so she had to move away from the tip. He slid to a stop and waited for her sight to fully come back. When it had, he threw his spear at her, and used that as a distraction. The spear knocked the sword out of Beth's hand and Tyr tried to grab her again. She blocked the attack with a punch, but he grabbed her fist, and pushed her down onto her knees. She punched at him again, but he grabbed her fist, and held her down.
"Remember, when you fight your mother, you must be ready for anything," Tyr reminded Beth as she tried to get up off of her knee.
Beth pulled her fists back to get Tyr closer to her and she used another favorite of Nate's. She headbutted Tyr in the nose, then uppercut him in the stomach, and finished off the three strike combo with a hook punch across the jaw. Tyr stumbled and caught himself before rubbing his jaw. He cracked his neck and turned around with a reassuring smile on his face.
"Good." He picked his spear up again. "Maybe now, you've shown me I can get serious."
Hearing this, Beth was a little irritated that he hadn't been going all out. She rushed him and hook punched him in the jaw again. She grabbed him by his neck and wound back for a punch, only to be stabbed between her ribs. She yelled and looked down, but noticed that he had stabbed her at an angle that wouldn't cause any debilitating damage. She looked up at him and pushed his spear out of her side before punching him full force in the nose.
She let him go and asked, "Ready to take me seriously now?"
She ran at him and tried to strike him, but he just used a fire shield to block her attack, and replied with a calm "Yeah... time to show you what I can really do."
He spun his spear in his hand and ignited the blade before pointing it at her. He launched a beam of fire at her, but she ran away from the attack. Without dropping his shield of embers, he used a gust of air beneath him to push himself up into the air. When he was high enough in the air, he raised his spear above his head.
"Bylgja frumefnanna!" He swung his spear down and giant fireballs, shards of ice, and boulders appeared out of nowhere.
They all flew down toward the battle field, but Beth managed to dodge most of it. When she looked at the damage the attack had done, she wondered if he was actually trying to kill her now. Maybe telling him to go all out wasn't the best idea... little did she know he wasn't even going all out yet. He sent out a beam of frozen mist and it struck her in the chest. The mist covered her and made her move much slower as frost built up around her. He fell back down to the ground and stabbed the ground once again. From the spear's impact, sparks flew out at Beth. She couldn't move fast enough to dodge and her armor was ignited by the sparks. She had to dispose of it before she herself was set on fire.
"Tell me, what is your place for when you face your mother again?" Tyr asked as he threw a spear at Beth's head, which she dodged again.
"I know I will need help, but she knows all my friends and their abilities," Beth replied as she dodged away from another duplicate attack "What would you suggest?"
"She knows them all, huh?" Tyr inquired while taking out his greatsword and swinging it at Beth's head.
"Yes, and no matter what any of us have thrown at her, she is always able to counter it." he jumped back and threw a fireball at her, which she blocked with her shield.
"Then perhaps, you should hit her with something she's never seen. The power of the Bifrost would do the trick... and I don't mean what Nate can do."He stabbed his spear into the ground and the segment of the arena they were on began to glow "Show her the true power condensed into a single weapon... or maybe two." She began to run toward the next segment, but wasn't fast enough, and was thrown up into the air by an explosion.
"Yeah, but what if she sends others to attack again?" Beth asked as she got back up "Would you not need every weapon you can have?"
"We will still have many powerful weapons. Lending you one or two wouldn't be the end of our world. We know what'll end us."
Tyr created his spheres again and leapt up into the air before slamming his fist down onto the ground. The spheres flew toward Beth, but she dove to the side. He ripped his fist out of the ground and kicked another sphere or two at her. Beth leapt over the attacks and ran at him. Before he could attack again, Beth landed a powerful uppercut on his chin. While he stumbled, she grabbed him by his very long arm, and threw him over her shoulder. He rolled over his shoulder and got to his knees while panting as Beth wound up for a large hook punch. She put all her power into the attack and he casually caught her fist in his palm.
"Enough, Elizabeth... I yield." For years she had hated that name, but Hayden and Tyr, the way they said it was full of respect, and for Hayden, love "You've definitely proved yourself ready." He let her hand go and stood up "You're ready to go in." She nodded and walked up to the doors, which opened for her, and what she found inside shocked her like little else had before.
