Cafeteria. Same day. Parallel to Sana's POV.

Wakatoshi's POV. His inner thoughts heh.

Yoshida Sana. That's the name of the new girl, sitting for lunch with me and my teammates. I ignored her at first because I can't be bothered to get to know other people other than my own teammates. I just continued eating my lunch and ignored my teammates bickering over who got to sit beside her. I was never interested in anything else besides volleyball. To me, other things are just distraction and unimportant.

But this new girl, kept staring at me. Maybe that was just my feelings but I knew she was staring at me. I became restless, trying to figure her out. What did she want from me? Have we met somewhere? Maybe we had met somewhere because she looked familiar to me.

Goshiki seemed infatuated with her, not that I blame him. She does have a nice appearance. Her long dark hair, tied in a simple ponytail, reaching her waistline, her curtain bangs falling from the side of her face. Her dark grey eyes are enchantingly and at the same time terrifyingly too big, they remind me of those boba pearls at the milk tea shop. Her eyes shined like them too. Her eyes seemed to shine a lot more when she focused listening to my teammates speaking. Weirdly, I think my teammates are not that interesting to listen to begin with but her genuine reaction to their shenanigan storytelling made them compelling.

I couldn't help but steal glances at her from across the table, my heart racing with each stolen glance. She was sitting directly across from me, her laughter chiming like music in my ears as she engaged in conversation with my teammates. But it was impossible to ignore the magnetic pull she had on me.

I tried to focus on the banter around me, tried to act as if I wasn't completely enthralled by the girl sitting just a few feet away. But every time our eyes met, even for a fleeting moment, it was as if the rest of the world faded away, leaving only the two of us in our own little bubble.

My teammates noticed my distraction, teasing me mercilessly as they exchanged knowing looks. But I couldn't bring myself to care. All I could think about was her – the girl with the dark grey eyes who had captured my attention so completely.

Wait, what am I thinking? This is not me at all. I can't possibly be thinking of this girl in that way, right?

I continued eating lunch, trying not to let the thought of Yoshida Sana in my head, while I heard my teammates gushing over something. Well, specifically, someone that hasn't left my mind yet.

Goshiki was holding Sana's wrist while my other teammates were laughing. She looked a little uncomfortable so I decided to chime in.

"That's enough, Goshiki. She clearly looks annoyed."

My teammates were in shock after I finally spoke up since the moment the lunch break started.

"Umm, it's fine, Ushijima-san. He was just playing around. I'm sure he meant well." she told me. Her gaze softened when she assured Goshiki.

Even her voice sounds like honey. Her voice also just radiated sweetness and kindness. The way she remained calm even after being annoyed by people she just met. Her patience amazed me. Wait, what's wrong with me?

"I was just looking out for you, Yoshida-san. Tsutomu can be a little too reckless sometimes. That's all."

Again, some of my teammates gave me an odd look, some of them were teasing me including Tendo who kept grinning like a Cheshire cat at me. Not that I care anyway.

The bell rang again indicating that lunch break was over. Yoshida Sana was immediately pulled by her classmate and Goshiki as they were running late for the next period.

I walked with my third year teammates to our classes in silence until Tendo popped up a question.

"Wakatoshi-kun, what was that about?"

I knew he was going to ask that. He's my best friend. Of course he knew me. He knew me too well. There were pros and cons of having someone know you too well. The pros? He knew me. The cons? Too well, that it annoyed me.

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean, Wakatoshi-kun. You never usually care about butting in about our bantering but then today, you said something but..."

"The girl, Yoshida Sana, was it?" Semi interrupted.

"She's cute. Welp, that's quite an understatement. She fell right from heaven, don't you think, Wakatoshi?" Hayota chimed in.

I was still thinking of the next thing to say but I was speechless. I didn't know what to say until Tendo spoke up again.

"Soooo, you do think she's pretty, huh, Wakatoshi-kun? You do, you do, you do, don't you?" he playfully grabbed both my shoulders with both of his hands while singing his lame song. I mentally punched him as I took his hands off of me. Of course, she's pretty. Is that a even real question?

"Oii, Tendo! Stop being rude to Ushijima!" Semi said to Tendo.

"I was just messing around. Sorry, Wakatoshi-kun. Don't be mad!" Tendo apologized to me. I rarely care (never) if my friends joke around with me because most of the time, their jokes were never funny to me.

"She is pretty." I answered them. Everyone was shocked but Tendo, who grinned again.

"Alright, a girl finally caught his eyes, after all this time!" Tendo laughed while the other third years were still silent from the shock, trying to process my answer.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you again, Yoshida Sana."
