chapter thirteen - besties' pov

Second week in Shiratorizawa (for Sana). Class 1-4. 9:30 am.

Tsutomu's POV

For the past week, I have been trying to get Yoshida to hang out with me but each time she would ask Agawa to join us. I like Agawa as a friend but does she not understand my hint? I wanted to hang out with her ALONE to get closer to her. 

"Hi, Yoshida-san? Are you free after practice?" I asked her, hoping she would say yes.

"Yes, I think so. Why?" she was on her phone but then turned to me.

"Would you like to hang out? Just us two? We can watch any show you like together!" I suggested an activity that she would enjoy as I knew she loved watching TV shows on Netflix.

"You want to watch Gilmore Girls? With me? On a school night?" she furrowed her eyebrows looking at me suspiciously. 

"Are you sure? I thought you prefer action more? You seriously want to watch a show about a girl attending Ivy League?" she asked again.

"Well you watch that stuff, I want to watch it too! Getting to know your friends' likes and dislikes are also fundamental of a good lasting friendship, you know?" I tried to be conniving, hoping she would finally agree.

"Yeah, you're right, you're right. I've only been hanging out with Agawa-san and forgot about my very first friend here. I'm sorry. Maybe we can also watch shows that you like too? I'll buy the snacks to make it up to you. Sounds good?" she suggested some activities that we could do together tonight although it was indoor. As long as I got to get closer to her then it's fine. 

"I'll be a little late though because I have something to do beforehand. Is 9 pm at my room okay with you?" she asked again.

"Oh, do you need help with anything you have to do before then? I can help you if you'd like?" I wanted to offer my help so I got to spend more time with her. 

These days, she always returned to her room late according to Agawa because she had 'something' to do. I couldn't help but wonder what was she doing after club activity.

"It's nothing hard really. I'm just doing extra practice with Ushijima-san. He asked me to help him practice his spikes and I got to practice my setting." she replied, beaming at her own response. 

Why is she smiling like that? Is it because of Ushijima-san? Does she have feelings for my team's captain?

"Is he ummm... treating you nicely?" I could feel my stomach about to drop waiting for her answer. 

Ushijima has always been intimidating and difficult for me or anyone even to approach but especially me since I was competing for his spot. A new girl that I'm interested in came and all of the sudden he was already all over her.

"Yeah, he's very nice to me! He even taught me how to spike!" she told me in excitement about how great Ushijima Wakatoshi is. I accidentally sighed in annoyance when I heard what she said.

"Why did you just sigh like that? Is Ushijima-san mean to you?" she asked curiously.

"I tried to get his attention before and he always just ignores me. I'm just a bit hurt that Ushijima's nice to you even though both of you just met. That's all." I told my concerns of the relationship I had with someone I really admired and looked up to.

"No worries. I'll help you. No guarantee it will work though but I'm going to keep trying for you, okay?" she replied while shrugging both of her shoulders. "Sato sensei just came in. We'll talk again later, alright?"

Maybe I was overthinking about their relationship too much. I envy her and like her at the same time, how is that even possible? I have a crush on her and at the same time I'm jealous of her getting close to Ushijima in less than a week she's been here.
