The Commander and Helena have rushed away from the imminent danger. They stop at a safe spot realising they had lost the sentries behind them.
Commander Koenig:
I think we're safe now. We need to keep ourselves scarce. It's more than likely the sentries will be patrolling the Eagle should we come back.
Dr. Russell:
They might be more interested in the Eagle and its power source than ourselves, John.
Commander Koenig:
Could well be.
Dr. Russell:
Then in the meantime, we need to keep moving. They'll be after us eventually.
Commander Koenig:
Right.
Dr. Russell:
Maya? What about Maya and the others?
Commander Koenig:
Maya can look after herself. She can camouflage herself within. Kinda more difficult for us.
Koenig takes a comlock and tries to call Moonbase Alpha.
This is Koenig. Come in, Maya. Maya, do you receive me? Come in.
There was no response.
Alpha. Alpha, do you read me? Come in, Alpha?
There was still no response.
Can't reach contact. Nothing. Communications have been blocked completely. We can't contact Maya or Alpha. Nor the other way around.
Dr. Russell:
Well, it's not the first time that's happened.
Commander Koenig:
But we still got a fix on where the transmission is coming from.
Dr. Russell:
Maybe there we can restore communication with Alpha and Maya.
Commander Koenig:
We keep following. Keep your eyes peeled for any more of those sentries in the way.
The Commander and Doctor keep searching. Meanwhile, Maya has returned to her physical form and has snuck to find the prisoners working in their area, patrolled by the sentries. We see the prisoners tirelessly working with their axes and shovels, digging into the ground. The sentries keep surrounding the perimeter. Maya finds one of the workers coming closer to her. The prisoner notices her, and Maya quickly joins in with the work, acting like one of the prisoners so she can learn more from the workers.
Prisoner 1:
You shouldn't be here. Get out.
Maya:
Not till I learn what is happening here on Vhullist Kalnkys. Who are you? And what is happening on this planet?
Prisoner 1:
It is dangerous to ask too many questions. The sentries will take that as a sign of retaliation.
Maya:
My people have been attacked and been drawn to this planet. This world is about to pass our orbit, and the safety of my friends is in jeopardy.
Prisoner 1:
Once you are a prisoner here, there is no escape.
Maya:
I can get in and out easily by changing by molecular appearance.
Prisoner 1:
Look out.
A sentry passes by them slowly, fizzing with electric currents. Maya and the prisoner dig rocks, ignoring the sentry as it passes away from them. Once gone far enough, Maya and the prisoner resume their conversation.
Maya:
Whoever you are, we are going to find who is running this world. And put an end to all this.
The sentries create a bleeping siren.
Now what?
Prisoner 1:
The rest period has begun. You may have gotten in unnoticed. But you certainly won't get out now.
Maya:
Not conventionally perhaps. Don't any of you try to escape from mining these rocks?
Prisoner 1:
What else do we have left anymore? Those who have tried to escape have been annihilated by the sentries. We are totally enslaved here.
Maya:
You would rather face oppression than strike up a force to combat these aggressors?
Prisoner 1:
We have nothing else to live for.
Maya:
I would rather take my chance fighting for what I believe in than submit my will to an eternity of imprisonment.
Prisoner 1:
This was once our settlement. Many generations ago. Until we ourselves were out-ruled by our own making. Now we are as we are.
The prisoners all settle together on the ground. Maya sits alongside them.
They haven't noticed you yet.
Maya:
Maybe they won't. We are all simply prisoners here. Once a target has been apprehended or eliminated, there's nothing for it to abide by than continue its program.
Prisoner 1:
These rest periods don't last for long. Only the strongest of us have been able to survive. On the little sustenance we are provided. And the intense labour we are exhausted through. You are young. And beautiful. You won't be able to escape from here now.
Maya:
I have told you. I can come and go as I choose. But not by means they will suspect. I have two friends who I hope are still alive out here. And together, we are going to get to the answer of what lies on this planet.
The sentries continue marching their rounds. Meanwhile, John and Helena arrive at the entrance of a cave. The energy traces converge down the cave. They stop, realising that below is where they are destined to go.
Commander Koenig:
Down there.
Dr. Russell:
Gravity. Pressure. Oxygen. Atmospheric levels down there differentiating, John.
Commander Koenig:
It means we go down there. And enter a totally alien environment down there.
Dr. Russell:
A world possessing varying drastic portions of atmospheric temperatures on a scale so differentiated to the same sectors of the planet.
Commander Koenig:
Juxtaposing, isn't it?
They place their helmets on and prepare to enter.
Watch your step, Helena.
We see them enter through carefully before we fade to blackness...
