Chapter Twenty-Six

There's no more us.

No more us.

Not anymore.

Those words seem to travel around my mind at high speed, keeping me conscious to the fact those words were true and had left his lips and that there was no way I could make him take them back.

It was already Saturday. School seemed to flow by with ease up until the brief goodbyes I was more than happy to rush. Tears were shed but promises made, and the determination to keep those promises is still existent even in the dark shadows of knowing they'll never be kept.

Promises are so powerful to the heart yet they're broken with so much ease that leaves you believing promises are just empty sentences, empty hopes and dreams.

For each of my last days there, Zayn had taken them off. He had not set a foot in the hallways since our last encounter, and each time I turned a corner only wishing to see his face my heart sank deeper into my body because he wasn't there.

I was never going to see him again in the ways I wished I could.

Ill never be able to hug him, comfort him or him comfort me in times of need.

Ill never hear his voice directed at me resulting in a fast beating heart and red stained cheeks.

Nothing will be the same ever again.

I was packing up the last of my things, books and notepads of all kinds. Then my Mother came running up the stairs with a smile on her face yet guilt evident in her eyes. "Orla, your friends are here for you." She said, and soon after many steps followed her. What if Zayn was here? What if he changed his mind?!

She stepped to the side, revealing Eleanor and the rest of our friends with huge grins upon their faces. "I'll leave you kids too it." Mum waved us off jogging down the stairs in her small heels, the click's slowly fading the further she wandered around the almost empty house.  My heart sank a little, but I was still thankful they had turned up unexpectedly. I should've known Zayn being here was too much of a high hope.

"We thought you might have needed a hand.." Eleanor suggested referring to my bedroom full of boxes.

"Erm, yes please." I smiled inviting them in, noticing Liam was the only one absent.

"Liam couldn't make it but he wishes you all the best." Niall assured pulling me into a hug almost reading my mind.

"Oh okay." I replied. "I just need to pack what's left in them draws." I said pointing to the chester draws beside my mirror. "Just pack them into those boxes." I added.

Harry, Louis and Niall nodded in response starting to pick out the rest of the books of different genres and placing them in the boxes beside them. "I thought you guys needed to pack for L.A?" I questioned folding some t-shirts.

"We decided to do all of that tomorrow. Besides it didn't feel right abandoning a perfectly good opportunity to spend time with you." Eleanor replied looking through a small box of my makeup.

"Thank you." I barely muttered, genuinely appreciative but still wishing they didn't make this harder by appearing at my soon to be old house.

"It's fine." Louis waved it off flicking through pages of what must be my sketches.

His eyes were carefully scanning the pages, and I thought nothing of it, just carrying on with what I was doing.

"Hey did you hear that Nando's have a special offer going? Buy a meal and get the next half price." Niall piped enthusiastically. I had a quiet giggle to myself as Harry rolled his eyes and the room erupted into a lively atmosphere. "What?" Niall frowned.
