I sit, my leg shaking as I wait for the first name to be called. Today is the private evaluation, and I don't think I've ever been this scared. I look to Elian and see him staring at me. I look away quickly and feel the heat rush to my face again.

"Alright," Asher says, nudging my side. "remember what Omar said. Try your hardest at every weapon you do. And remember, throw straight." He says. I nod and look over as Iris is called. Her round takes about fifteen minutes, before she comes out and Theca goes in. I'm next.

Elian stands up from his chair and walks towards me.

"Uh, good luck Ariston." He says. I nod and he walks away.

"What's up with him?" Asher asks me.

"It's nothing. We just talked yesterday." I say and cross my arms, beginning to get uncomfortable.

"Ariston if you want to leave the careers you can, but it's not the best decision." He says.

"What? No! I'm staying. It's just that there's this twelve year old from Seven that needs protection and I promised that I would keep the careers away from him."

"It's okay. I understand. If I knew that kid, I'd probably want him protected too. I'll help you keep One and Four away from him."

"Thanks Asher." I smile. He nods slightly.

"Ariston Mallow." The robotic voice says and I stand up.

"Good luck." Asher says and I walk proudly through the doors and into the training center. The Gamemakers are watching me closely as I make my way towards the center of the floor.

"Ariston Mallow. District 2." I say to them, turning a few heads into my direction.

I walk over to the knife stand and spread my feet shoulder length apart, ready for the first body-shaped target to light up. The one on my far right lights up and I quickly whisk the knife from my hand and it strikes the chest of the target. Another lights up and I throw the second knife with a turn, the same thing I did the first day of training. It strikes the targets forehead and then two light up at once, I quickly grab two more knifes and throw them at the same time, and they both strike the target's stomach. The Gamemakers clap but I'm not done. My stomach twists as I walk over to the archery station. I pickup the bow and my mind races to Iris.

"You should stick to throwing knifes."

Anger fills my body and I load two arrows into the bow at once. I fire at the target and one arrow strikes the target's forehead, and the other strikes the chest.

I walk over to the sword station and enclose six statues around me, surrounding me in a circle. I pick up the heaviest sword, one that Asher uses, and I begin swinging. Instantly, I slice through the neck of the first mannequin and cut off both arms of the second. I duck down and swing my leg under the mannequin's and it falls to the ground. I bring the sword through its chest and spin to the next two, flipping the sword around in my hand. I slice through both legs of one mannequin and stab the other in the head. I full sprint towards the last a jump up quickly, grabbing the neck of the mannequin. I swing my body around in the air and land to the back of the mannequin, and I twist it's neck so hard that the head pops off. I drop my sword with a clang and turn to the Gamemakers. They all look astonished.

"Thank you Miss Mallow. That was incredible." The Head Gamemaker, Seneca Crane announces. It's his first year as Head Gamemaker, and I can tell he looks scared and nervous.

I nod and walk to the elevator. I press my fingers against the button and watch Asher make his way into the gym.

The doors open to my floor and I see Trachea standing there waiting.
