Sunlight streams through the darkness and I shield my eyes to see. The plate stops rising and I look around, seeing that Lua is to my right, and the District 3 boy is to my left. I look around frantically for Sampson. He's who I need to defend, or at least make sure he makes it to the woods safely. I can't leave the blood bath until it's completely over, or the Capital and tributes will know about my second alliance.

I look at the small clock above the cornucopia and see that it reads :50seconds. Fifty seconds left to find what I need.

I look around frantically for a pack of throwing knives, and finally I find them, concealed deep inside the cornucopia, next to the swords. That's were it will be packed the most.

Just as Elian has said, an explosion goes off and a few people scream. It's the avox that was supposed to look like the girl from 7.

Twenty seconds remain and I position my feet to run. I shake out my arms and look at Lua. She's staring at an axe.

I find Asher a few people down from me. He's looking at me. I point over to the swords and throwing knives and points two fingers at him, then at me, indicating that we go in together. He nods.

In the final 10 seconds, I can almost hear the roar of the capital, thriving at how close it is.

7 seconds.

Goodbye, Dad.

6 seconds.

Goodbye, Tayla.

5 seconds.

Goodbye to everything I've ever know, and the things I'll never get to know. The dread overwhelms me now.

2 seconds.

Dread is quickly replaced by adrenaline and I feel confidence rising through my body.

BOOM.

I leap off the plate and sprint towards the cornucopia. I can already hear hoops and hollers around me.

Asher and I are the first ones at the Cornucopia, but the rest are quickly there. I run in and grab a pack of throwing knives, that go across your body like straps. I grab a few free ones and hide them in my boot, then I grab a dagger and run out, not bothering to check if Asher is okay. I know he is. I see Elian push of the boy from 10 that was charging at Sampson. Elian picks up a sword and a bag and him and Sampson go sprinting into the woods. I sigh in relief.

Suddenly, I'm tackled by a large figure. I look up and see the boy from 12 pinning me down. He's about to drive a spear through my chest, before my knees come up and he falls over my head. I slide out from underneath him and stab him in the back.

I just killed someone.

I shake the thought off and charge towards the girl from 6, who's fighting with the girl from 10. The girl from 10 sees me coming and takes off. I grab a knife from my strap and hurl it towards her. It strikes the center of her back and she falls. The girl from 6 already started running, and she's almost at the tree line until I throw another knife and it catches her leg. Sucky shot.

She screams in pain as she falls to the floor and I run to catch up to her.

"Shhhh," I say. The capital will think I was just antagonizing her, but really I wanted her to calm down. I took the knife out of her leg and she screamed again. I drove it quickly through her neck and pulled it back out. Neck injuries always kill quicker than any other part.
