Morning came all too fast, though Ayumi had been up for hours.
"Did you even sleep?" Ren asked as she walked into her best friend's bathroom.
"Good morning to you too." Ayumi grasped the coffee from Ren's hands as she finished blotting concealer under her eyes. "I slept for 2 hours." She answered before pausing her actions and taking a long sip of the black coffee. "I think it's going to be an espresso day."
"I can arrange that." Ren whipped out her work phone and started typing away. "Late night?"
"I can't tell you what time Toji got me home. I'm sure it was before 9." Ayumi set the cup down and finished blending her concealer in before moving to powder.
"You're going to be late for the morning meeting."
"Move it down 30 minutes."
"That'll interfere with the rest of the day."
"Cancel my 10am. That's the meeting with Nanami, right?"
"Yep."
"I'll call him during lunch instead."
By the time Ayumi was finished with her makeup, and Ren was done debriefing her for the day, it was 20 minutes past their time to leave.
"Hey, did you know your personal phone has been ringing?" Ren called from the kitchen. "YUMI WHAT THE HELL!?" Ayumi ran into the kitchen as she put in her last earring, looking for what Ren was yelling at. She watched her best friend's mouth open and close multiple times as she stared at the phone. "Geto?" Ayumi relaxed, but grew frustrated.
"Yeah." She sighed and handed Ren the necklace she loved wearing but always struggled to clip on. The two exchanged items, Ren taking the necklace and placing it along Ayumi's neck while she looked over her messages and missed calls on her phone.
She noticed a missed call from her father, a text from Toji both from this morning, and 3 missed texts and 3 missed calls from Suguru Geto.
"What did you say to him yesterday, Ren?"
"I... just that you're doing amazing and you're CEO and he said he saw some guy helping you out of a car at the club so then I was gushing about how great Toji is-"
"Ren." Ayumi turned to her best friend as a knock sounded on the door. "You didn't tell Suguru what I think?"
"No! I said he's your bodyguard." Ayumi looked through the peephole to find Toji standing in the hallway.
"Good, I can't deal with that type of drama right now." Ayumi smiled as she opened the door to reveal Toji who opted for a navy suit today instead of his normal black. "Good morn- you're amazing." She cut herself off when she noticed the two cups in his hands.
