Two hours later, on the dot, Toji returned with two suitcases, his laptop, and his son.
"No surprises?" He asked the doorman, who was already shaking when he saw Toji pull up.

"No sir." Toji nodded and passed the man a wad of cash.

"Good man."

"Hi!" Megumi smiled brightly up at the doorman, who offered a smile back even though he was still shaking.

"C'mon Gumi." Toji said, grabbing the top of his son's head and guiding him in the direction of the elevator.

Once outside of Ayumi's apartment, Toji had Megumi behind his leg just in case Ren went bat shit crazy in the hours he was gone. "Please don't shoot." Toji whispered to himself as he heard the door unlatch.

"Oh thank god." She sighed as she saw it was just Toji and "Gumi!!!!" Ren beamed and quickly put the gun on the counter where the toddler couldn't see it before she hugged him.

"Renny!" Megumi laughed as he hugged his newfound best friend. "Do you wanna see the toys I brought?"

"Oh boy do I ever!" Ren made eye contact with Toji and motioned towards the master bedroom, silently telling him that's where Ayumi was. While Megumi was entertained for now, he went over to the closed door and knocked.

"Miss?" He opened it softly.

"Come in." Her voice was quiet, no longer shaky like before. What he didn't know was that she was keeping herself busy and putting away her laundry from last night. Her eyes widened when the matching black lace lingerie set was in the middle of her bed. "Fuck." She hissed and grabbed it quickly, throwing it on the ground and kicking it under the bed. Toji saw the last part and though he wasn't quite sure what she did, he had an idea.

"Any better?"

"No." She answered honestly and continued to unpack her small suitcase. "But I hope to be in a few hours."

"I brought Megumi, I probably should have asked you beforehand."

"No, it'll be a good distraction." Ayumi dropped the shirt she held in her hands at the word she spoke.

That's what Choso was. A distraction.

"What is it?"

"I know it could be random, but... you said it might not be, right?" She was hoping he would catch on to her referring to the shooting without her having to say the word.

"I can't rule it out."

"Do you think someone is going after my happiness?" Their eyes met at her words.

Was she thinking the same thing he was?

"Miss-"

"Just... Ayumi here. You're in my house... in my bedroom watching me put my clothes away." She chuckled at the thought. "Ayumi is fine here." He nodded, closing the door and leaning against it as he heard Megumi getting closer while he rambled on about Studio Ghibli.
