The rest of the weekend went by without any excitement. Ayumi worked through the two days as she tried to keep her mind from wandering to what could happen if she stepped outside by herself. She was scared, no doubt. However, she knew she had to stay strong for her friends, and for her company. If she ghosted everything, it wouldn't be a good look, and she had to keep her head on straight.
Monday started off normally, with the girls and Toji leaving at their regular time after Toji took Megumi to daycare.
A comfortable silence fell between the three on the drive.
"We don't have any surprises scheduled today, do we?" Ayumi asked as the three waited for the elevator to land on the 8th floor.
"No, just that meeting with G&G to finalize the contract." Ayumi looked at Toji.
"If they're here any longer than 10 minutes, please usher them out." He simply nodded at his boss's words. "Are you two okay?"
"Yeah." They voiced quietly in unison. "It's just going to be a really weird meeting." Ayumi sighed as the elevator doors opened, revealing the hustle of the 8th floor. As soon as Toji's foot stepped outside of the elevator, his eyes were scanning the floor for anything out of the ordinary. He stepped aside when he deemed it safe, allowing the women to walk ahead of him so he could keep them in his sights.
"Miss Kato, I'd recommend setting up in Miss Ieiri's office for the week so I can keep an eye on both of you." His voice was calm, but assertive.
"Sounds good to me." He sensed relief in her voice. "I'll have... someone bring me a smaller desk to sit in the corner." Ayumi's heart sank as she realized Ren was about to say Choso.
As the three walked the floor, passing the board room with all of management waiting inside, the rest of the floor fell silent. It's as if no one knew what type of reactions would come out of the three if anyone said the wrong thing.
"Just use the conference table, I don't think there's any meetings set up in my office." Ren nodded, silently agreeing with her boss.
"Ren, text Nanami and have him inform the rest that Governance is canceled. We'll catch up on Wednesday." She nodded and pulled out her phone as Ayumi went to her desk to get settled.
As they were getting settled, Toji placed himself behind Ayumi's chair, standing parallel with the wall of glass, to shield her from any sniper. With Ren being at the conference table, Toji didn't have to worry as the glass wall ended and concrete began where the conference table was.
"Ladies, Toji." Nanami greeted as he entered the office and shut the door behind him. "Is everyone okay?" He was one of the first to text the two women after he heard of Choso on Friday morning. "There's some rumors going around in the office about the level of security and the lack there of." Toji's eyes narrowed at Nanami.
