The night crept by at a snail's pace, with Wooyoung sleeping soundly beside me. Despite his heroic act of rescuing me from Yeonjun's captivity—a deed that left him injured—my anger simmered unabated. The fact that he had ventured alone, without backup, sent waves of frustration coursing through me.
Perched on the edge of the bed, I sifted through documents, periodically pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose. My body protested with aches and soreness, a stark reminder of the recent ordeal. Nevertheless, duty called. Errands I had postponed were now urgent, demanding my attention despite my desire to recuperate at home.
Setting the papers aside, I slid out of bed, my movements slow and deliberate. I reached for my jumper, car keys, and wallet, essentials for the day's tasks. Stepping into the hall, I shuffled towards the stairs, the sound of laughter from Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yeosang, Changbin, and even Wonho piercing the air. My jaw clenched in response, the jovial sounds grating against my raw nerves.
As I descended the final step, Seonghwa's voice broke through, "How is Wooyoung feeling?"
I nodded, barely concealing my irritation. "Fine. But it could have been avoided," I replied curtly, my gaze drifting as Yeosang caught my eye.
"Where are you headed? May I join you?" he inquired gently, his voice cutting through the tension.
Pausing, I studied him for a moment, then nodded. Together, we made our way to the door.
As Yeosang and I stepped outside, the cool morning air felt refreshing, a stark contrast to the heated atmosphere inside. He closed the door softly behind us, matching my pace as we walked towards my car.
The silence between us stretched, filled only by the sound of our footsteps until Yeosang broke it, his voice cautious. "You seem...tense. Is everything alright?"
I exhaled, the breath I didn't realize I was holding. "It's just—all of this could have been prevented," I admitted, my voice laced with a blend of exhaustion and residual anger.
Yeosang nodded, understandingly. "You're upset with Wooyoung for going alone," he deduced.
"It's not just that," I said, unlocking the car. "It's the recklessness, the lack of consideration. He didn't think of the consequences."
Yeosang slid into the passenger seat as I started the engine. "Wooyoung acted out of concern for you," he gently reminded me. "His methods might have been flawed, but his intentions were rooted in protecting you."
