Chan's eyes lifted from the documents to meet mine, carrying a mix of concern and relief as he absorbed my words. His breath was shaky, reflecting the emotional weight of our conversation. As I stepped closer, the space between us felt charged with unspoken emotions, dense with our shared history and the future we hoped to shape together.
"Yes, I was in a very dark place, but I wouldn't do it. I promise I'm happy with where I am now," I whispered, my voice barely above a breath as I bridged the gap between us. His eyes, always so expressive, searched mine for the truth, seeking reassurance.
Seeing the worry still lingering in his gaze, I reached out and gently cradled his face in my hands. This intimate gesture was meant to ground us both in the reality of the moment. "I got you, you're back. I would never waste my chance to make things right between us. You mean the world to me, Chan, and I could never be as lost as I was before," I continued, a faint smile gracing my lips as I tried to convey not just my love, but also my renewed strength and commitment to our bond.
Chan's features softened, the tension easing as he leaned into my touch. The vulnerability we both felt was palpable, the thin veil that had once separated us now dissolving as we reconnected on a deeper level.
"You mean the world to me too, Min," Chan whispered back, his voice thick with emotion. His hands reached up to cover mine, pressing them against his cheeks. "Hearing you say that, knowing how far you've come... it means everything."
"I just want to make sure you're really okay, that you're not just saying what you think I want to hear," Chan said after a pause, his tone cautious yet filled with hope.
"I'm better than I've been in a long time," I assured him, squeezing his hands gently. "And it's because I have you and everyone else supporting me. I'm not alone anymore, and I never want to feel that way again. "
His eyes held a mischievous glint as I closed the distance between us, a content sigh escaping me. Leaning in to place a kiss on his cheek, he turned suddenly, catching my lips with his. Surprised and slightly embarrassed, I blushed deeply, my hand instinctively coming up to slap his chest lightly.
"You gotta stop doing this..." I whispered, my voice low as I glanced around nervously to make sure no one had witnessed our impromptu moment.
Chan bit his lip, unable to hide the smile that spread across his face. "I couldn't stop myself," he admitted with a playful shrug. "No one saw, it's okay."
Despite his reassurance, I licked my lips, still feeling the warmth of the unexpected kiss as I took a step back. Trying to regain my composure, I headed toward the stairs, acting as if nothing had happened, though the flutter in my chest told a different story.
As I ascended the stairs, I could still feel his eyes on me, the playful yet intense look reminding me of the complicated dynamics that often simmered just below the surface between us.
