chapter five

"Chenyu was so pretty I wish we could would've been able to stay longer" Kazuha sighed sitting on the sofa "we should plan to go for longer soon"

"we could after I finish that project" the other replied sitting beside the poet

"right.. I forgot about that"

"I saw you writing last night" Scaramouche said breaking Kazuha's train of thought "was it a poem?"

"Oh yeah" he answered passing the other a folded piece of paper

Where the green hills rise.
Where fog veils the dawn in a subtle disguise.
Spirits watch from afar, guarding the village.
As the sunset spills it's crimson hue,
silken mist caress each rooftop.
The night's cool breath brings rest to the leaves,
Each one like a star in the abyss of darkness.
A trademark of natures wealth.

"You can keep it," Kazuha said, "so you can be reminded of me while you're busy."

"thanks," the wanderer replied with a smile, "I'll keep it on me all the time"

Suddenly, a loud knock sounded. Kazuha approached and opened the front door to reveal Beidou standing there, with her usual cheerful expression.

"we have stuff to do" she stated smiling brightly "remember?" 

"oh yeah, I forgot about that" the poet responded turning to the other "you don't mind if I go with Beidou for a while right?"

"not at all" Scaramouche replied with a subtle bitterness in his tone as he remembered what he overheard the other day.

"I'll see you later, okay?"

Once the pair had left, The wanderer slouched down more into his sofa sighing to himself. He thought to himself for a while. He decided that he should just spend lantern rite by himself and not get in the way of his best friends confession plans.

"sorry Kazuha, but it's for the best" he mumbled to himself.

"do you think he'll accept?" Paimon questioned eagerly

"stop being nosey" traveller replied

"no it's okay" Kazuha responded "to be honest I don't know what he'll say"

"I think he defiantly likes you Kazuha" Beidou joined in "earlier he seemed irritated by you leaving"  

"that doesn't mean he likes me back"

"ohh and that time he got really jealous when you were talking to Aether" Paimon reminded

"he always acts like that" Kazuha argued

"only around you" Aether responded "normally he wouldn't act like that"

Kazuha gave up on thinking of reasons "I just don't want to get my hopes up"

"we get that but we also don't want you to back out" Beidou replied 

Before the poet could say anything more, Paimon looked at a clock a exclaimed "It's almost time and we haven't set up!"

"Ah we should probably take our leave" Aether said "since I won't see you beforehand I wish you luck"

"Thank you" Kazuha smiled gratefully "thank you for your help as well"

Scaramouche stood watching his best friend from afar. He didn't expect to see him on his walk. He turned on his heel to walk away but then he heard someone call after him.
