After the graduation, you go to meet up with Erwin, Hange, and Levi.  You find them in Erwin's office, discussing plans for the upcoming expedition.

"Erwin, Hange, Captain," you greeted them.

"Tch, just call me Levi. We're going to be the same rank anyway," Levi responded.

"Right, I forgot about that," you sighed.

"Speaking of your promotion, with the upcoming expedition, I believe it's about time you get your proper rank." Erwin continued, "You will receive the rank of Corporal. It's the same one Levi has, you're the only two with the rank seeing as Miche is now a Section Commander. You'll likely be referred to as Captain, same as Levi. The name of the squad you'll be given is the 'Extermination Squad.' It's a new squad and you will personally choose its members. The main mission for your squad is to be the primary force in leading extermination of our enemies."

"Yes, commander," you saluted.

"With that over with, you need to select your team." Erwin went on, "You can choose four other people, between all of the cadets from the 104th Cadet Corps that joined the Scouts. The exception being Eren, of course, as due to his titan-shifting abilities that you saw during the Battle for Trost District, led to him being entrusted to Levi." He hands you a list, "these are all of the new Scouts."

"Hm. I choose Mikasa Ackerman, Armin Arlert, Connie Springer, and Jean Kirstein," you said.

"Interesting choice, (Y/N). Any particular reason?" Levi questions you.

"Yes, actually. Mikasa is simply extremely skilled, Armin is a genius when it comes to plans, Connie is fast, and Jean is also decently skilled, but can keep a level head."

"Well then, (Y/N). Levi will notify them that they'll be with you from now on. Now, onto other matters. Hange please show (Y/N) the map."

Hange agrees, "Yes, Erwin."

"Levi Squad will be with Eren in the center rear, the safest place in the formation. Hange will be the next squad up with the wagons. I will be in the center front, ahead of Hange. You and the Extermination Squad will be in the middle right flank. This expedition has an ulterior motive. We expect to encounter our enemy and we are prepared to capture said enemy. We suspect the enemy is from within the regiment, therefore, we've given three different ideas of where Eren is being held with the Levi Squad. It is only us four and the Special Operations Squad that will be aware of Eren's true location. Please guard this secret, even from your squad."

"Yes, Commander."

"Right then, (Y/N) prepare yourself and your squad. We leave tomorrow." Hange explained. You agreed and left.

Upon leaving with Hange and Levi, Levi went separately, assumably to notify your squad of their new assignment. Seeing as you two were alone, Hange speaks to you, "(Y/N), how are you feeling? Your first expedition beyond the walls is tomorrow."

"Yeah, it feels surreal. To be honest, I'm a little nervous." You told her.

"Well, yeah, everyone is. I am, Erwin is, even Levi is. The key is to just push those nerves down. You've been trained for this very moment, keep a level head, and do not hesitate." Hange explained.

"Yeah, I get. Thanks Hange," you said.

"Of course, (Y/N)! Now, go get some rest, we have a big day tomorrow."

You agree and leave to your room. On your way there, you encounter Levi. "I told your squad (Y/N). Get some rest, be ready for tomorrow." He walks away. 

You enter your room and see a letter on your desk. You look at it and see it's from Levi. "Levi? Why is he leaving me a letter? I just saw him." You thought. You open the letter and begin reading it.

Dear (Y/N),

Tomorrow is your first expedition. It's likely you're feeling nervous and scared. It is very understandable for you to feel this way, you saw the horrors of the titans. If you need it, at all, I'm here to talk. Tomorrow you will experience traumatic things and you will undoubtedly need some comfort. I'm here if needed. I'll let you sleep, though. Get some rest, and mentally prepare yourself for tomorrow. Goodnight, (Y/N).

I put the letter down and began undressing to change. Right after I took my shirt off, I head a knock at the door. I walked over and opened it, revealing Levi.

"Hey, (Y/N) I-" He looked a little shocked at you.

"Levi? What did you need?" You asked.

"I just wanted to make sure you got my letter, sorry." He responded, not looking at you.

"Oh, yeah, I did. Thank you, Levi. It meant a lot."

"Yeah of course. I'll let you sleep, sorry." He left. You closed the door. You changed and went to bed, you had a long day ahead of you.
