You awoke the next morning full of nerves. Today's your first expedition beyond the walls. You quickly got dressed and left your room, finding the base in chaos. Everyone was getting their things together and getting their final meal before departure. You get your own meal and sit next to Levi, Hange, and Erwin. The cadets look at you a little bewildered for it, "What's he doing with the Captain, Section Commander, and Commander Erwin? Isn't he new?"

Levi, already annoyed by this turns to the cadet, "He's a Corporal, brat. You should show respect to your superiors."

You thank Levi for the help, "It's alright. They have a right to be a little shocked by the situation."

"They need to respect you, regardless. You have your rank for a reason," Erwin chimed in, Hange agreeing with him.

This bickering was soon cut off by Jean, Connie, Mikasa, and Armin. They walked up to your guys' table, "Captain? Can we sit with you?" Armin was the first to speak. You look at Levi, "They mean you, idiot."

Oh. OH. "Yeah, of course," you quickly state. They sit down and begin eating, in silence.

Jean spoke first, "So, why us?" Everyone's heads at the table raised to this. Levi, Erwin, and Hange knew, but Levi's Squad, who was also at the table, did not.

"Well," you started, "You all pose good qualities. Armin is a strategic genius, everyone knows that. Mikasa is scary good in combat. Connie, you're fast, a very good skill to have in titan combat. Finally, Jean, well, you're average. Though, you keep a level head and that could be useful." Both squads seemed a little shocked before erupting in laughter.

"AVERAGE!" Connie laughed. You smiled. Hange began laughing at that, and even Levi, and Erwin cracked smiles.

"I am NOT average. How dare you?!" Jean yelled, embarrassed.

"I didn't mean it in a bad way. You're decently skilled in every area of combat," you attempted to fix the situation. This caused Jean to roll his eyes.

"Alright, alright, its time." Erwin started, "SCOUTS!" This grabbed everyone's attention. "Grab your gear. Prepare yourselves for battle. Meet at the outer gate in Karanes District. It's time for the expedition." This caused everyone to get up and start preparing themselves.

You looked towards your squad, "Prepare yourselves as well. We're placed in the middle of the right flank, one of the most dangerous areas. This is no time for hesitation." This caused your squad to look a little uneasy but nonetheless they got up and prepared themselves.

Levi walked up to, putting his hand on your shoulder he spoke to you, "Believe in your ability to lead them, and do not hesitate. Beyond the walls we need to work together. Keep your squad together, prevent them from going against each other." He nodded at you then left to his own team.

Hange and Erwin walked up to you next. "You got this, (Y/N). Don't get scared or they'll all get scared." Hange opened, then Erwin continued, "We're counting on you out there. We know you won't let us down." You thanked them then walked out, grabbing your ODM gear, horse, and your cloak, you left to the wall.

Arriving at the Karanes District Outer Wall you clipped on your cloak and began to double check everything. Levi walked past you and smiled at you, reassuring you. Soon after, your squad walked up to you with their horses in tow. You all got into formation.

Erwin arrived at the head of the formation, beginning his speech. "The Scout Regiment will now begin the 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls! ONWARD!" All the scouts let a war-cry in response.
