Foreshadowing.
First of all what is Foreshadowing?
Foreshadowing is a reference often vague of something that is about to come to help the reader guess what might be about to happen, Skylights.Foreshadowing does what impact to the story you write? How does it improve it?
Foreshadowing is used to build suspense, and helps the reader guess what will happen. It also helps build up shock value.
Famous Foreshadowing: Romeo & Juliet
In the famous balcony scene Romeo says, "Life were better ended by their hate, than death prolonged, wanting of thy love."In other words, he is saying he would rather have Juliet's love for a short time, than endure a long life without her. (Spoiler Alert)
Of Mice and Men is an excellent book filled with tons of foreshadowing.
In this book a man named Candy has a dog who needs to be put down. Candy doesn't have the courage to kill the dog himself and later laments, "I ought to of shot that dog myself"
As the book concludes, George needs to choose if he will kill Lennie himself, or if he will let Lennie die by the hands of strangers.
