Stepping out the taxi, you hand the final twenty pound note to the driver, and smile when you deny the change. He thanks you for the change, and you turn around, tightly holding the handle of your suitcase.
Gatwick crawls out, spreading into the massive building it is in front of you, and you glance both ways as you hurry across the street.
Walking into the airport with determination, you immediately head to baggage, and start the gruelling process of getting on a plane. It'll be worth it though, in the end; sitting next to strangers and suffering boredom for three hours.
Within two hours, you're sat next to your gate, legs spread out in front of you as you twiddle your thumbs and bounce your thigh. Mindlessly, you pick your hoarding pass from your pocket, and gently drag your fingertips along the edge.
You don't usually travel 1,139 miles without telling anybody. And you definitely don't do it without telling the person you're visiting that you'll be coming.
But you want to surprise Theo. It's his birthday soon, and every 21 year old deserves to have their girlfriend close by for their birthday.
You keep peering through the wide glass wall, watching all the different planes lined up in preparation for lift off. You can't wait for your plane to roll in, and you wouldn't even mind getting into a dirty seat if it'll get you in the air faster.
It seems the universe is in tune with your thoughts today, because the lovely, airborne, aluminium tube rolls across the tarmac, the blue wing tips glinting in the rare London sunlight.
You watch intently as the strange tubey-walkey-corridor thing stretches towards the front door of the plane, and wait impatiently as the passengers file out of it.
Cars crawl like bugs around the plane, either refilling the fuel or taking off the luggage, and you're forced to sit and wait through it all.
There's a steady rhythm to your now rapid bouncing of your leg, and you recognise the cocktail of nervousness and excitement coursing through you, making your body fizz like a shaken up bottle of Cola.
At last, people pile in through the sectioned door leading towards border control, and you mindlessly people watch as your mind races to what Theo may say or do when he finally sees you.
He might scream. Faint, possibly. Crying is a very strong contender as well, from the array of scenarios, and you can't help but joke internally that he'll explode.
Someone catches your interest out of the corner of your eye, and you double back, looking at the guy again.
He's walking away, back facing you, but good lord, is this Theo's long lost brother or something?
He's tall just like him, and has the same set of shoulders. Even the lilt in his walk is the same, his free hand hanging at his side while his other one holds onto the loose strap of a bag.
Its slightly freaky, especially since he has the same damned haircut, and the same sense of style.
