The city lights of Toronto shimmered beneath the twilight sky, casting their glow across the towering skyline. Among them stood the grand Nanase Mansion - a fusion of old-world architecture and cutting-edge technology, passed down through six generations of the Nanase family.

Inside, music filled the grand hall. Crystal chandeliers gleamed overhead, illuminating a sea of executives, dignitaries, and journalists. The occasion: Rin Nanase's official promotion to CEO of Nanase Corporations - one of the most powerful conglomerates in the world, with influence spanning technology, aerospace, clean energy, chemicals, weaponry, entertainment, and philanthropy.

At just eighteen years old, Rin had inherited not only the company but also the weight of his family's legacy.

Rin stood roughly five foot eight, his pale complexion contrasting sharply with his dark attire - a tailored black coat over a crisp white shirt and black tie, dress shoes polished to a mirror finish. His long black hair was brushed neatly back, giving him a poised yet youthful presence.

He walked calmly through the crowd, a glass of red wine in hand, beside Kevin Wei, the company's former interim CEO. Kevin, a broad-shouldered man of forty-two, rested an arm around Rin's shoulder as they moved through the guests, smiling proudly.

"Congratulations, Rin," Kevin said warmly. "You've officially become the head of Nanase Corporations."

Rin gave a faint smile, eyes sharp beneath the glow of the chandeliers. "Well, my life was devoted to becoming one eventually," he said quietly. "It was my father's wish - for the sake of the company."

Kevin nodded approvingly. "I'm sure your father would be proud of your accomplishment, Rin Nanase."

Rin inclined his head in gratitude. Kevin patted him on the back before excusing himself to greet other guests. As Rin turned to set his glass down, he was approached by a familiar face.

A young woman with dark, curly caramel hair that flowed past her shoulders stepped into view. She wore a white blouse tucked neatly into a black skirt - elegant, composed.

"Chizuru," Rin greeted, a genuine smile forming on his lips.

"Hi," she replied softly, returning the smile. "I'm going to be your new assistant."

Rin blinked in surprise. "Really? I wasn't told about this."

"You told me yourself that I was qualified," she reminded him, a hint of amusement in her tone.

He paused, thinking back. And then it hit him - he had said that, weeks ago during an informal interview. "Oh, right," he admitted, laughing lightly. "I did."

She chuckled. "You realize we have a conference meeting in a few days, right? I hope you've outgrown your habit of slacking off."

Rin smirked faintly. "Of course. I know what I'm doing."

"Henry Olsen won't make it to the party," Chizuru added. "He had to leave for a business trip in the UK."

Rin remembered last seeing Henry, remembering that he had to go travel abroad at some point for a business trip. "Right. I remembered that."

"You've always been ambitious - and I knew you'd make it to the top one day."

His tone softened. "The goal was always to change people's lives for the better. Through innovation. I want to build a world where humanity can expand, evolve, and live easier - where technology helps us do something greater."

Chizuru smiled sincerely. "You've always been innovative, Rin. I'm proud of you."

For a brief moment, the two simply gazed at one another - two friends from their childhood days in Tokyo, now standing in the heart of Toronto, bound by destiny and legacy.

Then Kevin returned, interrupting the moment. "Excuse me, Miss Kawasaki," he said, placing a friendly arm borrow Mr. Nanase for a while."

"Of course," she replied with a polite smile.

Rin gave a small nod. "Looks like I have to go. I'll see you later."

"Have fun," Chizuru said warmly.

Kevin led Rin through the bustling crowd, lowering his voice as they walked. "Say, Rin - I have something for you. A little gift I left at Nanase Tower."

Rin glanced up at him curiously. "You want me to drive all the way there just to get it? What is it, exactly?"

Kevin grinned. "Trust me. It's a big surprise - waiting in your office."

Rin chuckled, swirling the wine in his glass. "Then I'll get it after the party. Wouldn't want to abandon my own celebration."

"Fair enough," Kevin said with a chuckle. "Wouldn't want you missing your own toast."

Rin smiled, watching Kevin walk away through the crowd. As laughter and music filled the air once again, he took another sip of wine and looked out over the party - the sea of faces, the shimmering lights, and the city skyline beyond the windows.

For now, he was the center of it all - the youngest CEO in Nanase history.

But somewhere deep inside, he couldn't shake the thought of Kevin's mysterious "gift" waiting for him at Nanase Tower - the second-tallest building in Toronto, second only to the CN Tower.

He would go there later.
After the party.
After the applause faded.

And whatever awaited him there - would mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
