Seated atop a tall building, the Dark Knight gazed down at the bustling streets of Toronto. From this height, the people below looked like mere shadows under the glow of streetlights. Behind the dark visor of his mask, a transparent map glowed faintly - the heads-up display tracking his location history and heat signatures across the city.
"Where else have we not checked?" he asked, his tone low and steady.
"Toronto is quite a large city. It's difficult to trace him down," replied Retro, his AI companion, through the earpiece.
Dark Knight stayed silent. Suddenly, the sound of glass shattering echoed from below. He looked down - an electronics store had been broken into.
A masked thief burst out through the broken window, clutching a pile of phones. But before he could run far, a blast of white energy struck him in the back. The impact sent him sprawling forward, the stolen goods scattering across the ground.
Groaning in pain, the man turned over - his eyes widening in terror.
"Oh shit...! It's you!" he gasped, crawling backward. "Wait, wait! I know who you're looking for!"
Dark Knight stopped in his tracks, towering over the man.
"Where is he?"
"Yuusuke- he's waiting for you. An abandoned warehouse in Scarborough. He knows you're looking for him."
Dark Knight extended a gloved hand to help him up. The thief hesitated, then reached for it - only to receive a swift, powerful punch to the face that knocked him unconscious.
The Dark Knight straightened, white arcs of energy coursing from his gloves and boots as he soared into the sky.
"Retro," he ordered, "find me an abandoned warehouse in Scarborough."
"Roger that."
Moments later, a route appeared across his visor.
---
Inside the warehouse, Yuusuke Nanase sat calmly on a chair under dim lights. He was dressed in black - the traditional Yubiwa attire. His expression was unreadable, his blade resting at his side.
Outside, the Dark Knight landed before the building, his boots cracking against the cold pavement. He stood still, memories flooding back - the image of his slain parents, the blood-soaked futons, and his brother's chilling words.
He raised his left palm.
A burst of repulser energy shattered the warehouse doors. The Dark Knight stepped through the smoke.
"So, this is your hideout, Yuusuke Nanase."
Yuusuke looked up and smirked. "Rin Nanase... You've grown. Seems like you've changed a lot."
"The night is the night where I avenge my family," Rin said coldly. "And that starts with me killing you."
"I wonder about that..." Yuusuke rose to his feet, his eyes narrowing.
Silence filled the air. Both brothers stared at one another, the years of hatred and regret weighing heavily between them.
Then - action.
Dark Knight thrust his left palm forward, unleashing a blast of white energy. Yuusuke drew his sword in a single fluid motion, slashing through the beam with lightning precision.
Shurikens flew from his hand - three-pointed, deadly - cutting through the air. Dark Knight countered by throwing his own custom black shurikens, each shaped like the insignia on his chest. The projectiles collided midair in a shower of sparks.
