The apartment was cosy and inviting, with soft lighting and comforting scents wafting from the kitchen. The boy followed the older man as he led him to the living room. The space was furnished with plush sofas and oversized armchairs arranged around a coffee table adorned with books and magazines.

“Have a seat,” Wally said, patting the cushion of the nearest sofa.

The boy sank into the softness of the couch, feeling a sense of ease settle over him. Wallys’ cat, Loki, crawled onto his lap, settling in with a contented purr as he boy gently scratched behind his ears. From this vantage point, he could see framed photographs adorning the walls, capturing moments of laughter and love. It felt like a sanctuary, a place where he could finally let his guard down and share his worries with someone he trusted.

After a moment, Wally Jacobs settled himself comfortably into the armchair close to the boy, his expression gentle and attentive despite the fatigue that lay heavily on his shoulders, “What’s on your mind, kiddo?” he asked, his voice soft and encouraging.

Garfield took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts before speaking. “I-I had a rough day,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

Mr. Jacobs nodded understandingly. “I’m sorry kid, you want to talk about it?”

“I don’t know..people. Friends. Life..it all sucks,”the boy began, his words hesitant. “Sorry for all this, I should probably just go home.”

Wally listens attentively as his eyes turn cold, “Sit your ass down…life is shit but only ‘cause you let it get to that point,” he stated strongly, reaching out to place a comforting hand on the boy’s shoulder. “And you're not a bother so get that out of your thick skull I’m here okay? So talk.”

Garfield sniffled, blinking back tears, “Really? It doesn’t feel that way.”

Wally nodded, his expression sympathetic.“Kid, do you really think I would have let you into my house if I thought you were a bother? Have you talked to your mom?”

He sighed as he glanced up, meeting Wally Jacob’s gaze directly, “You really think my mom has any time to sit and chat?” he questions, “She’s too busy so why bother.”

“Your friends?”

“That's kinda the reason why I’m here.”

“Well you know I don’t mind your company, son,” Wally reassured him, ruffling his curls softly. “You’ll figure it all out. But if you ever need a safe space or someone to talk to, I’m here for you, okay?”

The boy nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips, “Okay, Walls. Thank you.”

“No problem kid..no problem,” he answered, returning the smile,  “Now how about we grab some cookies and tea and we can chat about how shit life is. That sound good?”

“Yeah..yeah it does.”

Garfield woke up with half of his blanket on the floor and only one sock on his right foot. Due to his talk  with Chase and staying in Wally’s guest bedroom the boy forgot to set his alarm, the only reason he woke up was the sound of a car screeching outside. Stretching his limbs, the boy sat up and yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He glanced around the room, noticing a small tray on the bedside table, adorned with a simple breakfast of toast, fruit, and a glass of fresh orange juice. Beside it lay a bright pink post-it note.

“Good morning, Kiddo! Hope you slept well. Enjoy  your breakfast! You still have school today so don’t skip!! Remember, I’m here for whenever you need me.
- Wally”
