I didn't think about how much fame would cost me my life and my sanity...[Selene]

Selene jumped in her sleep sitting up from the heavy white covers. The room was dimly lit and her eyes focused on the man sitting on her bed. Oakley smiled softly at her rubbing her covered feet.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you," Oakley told her as she sat up fully.

Selene wanted to smile but couldn't, "It's fine."

"What are you thinking about?" He asked as she began biting her thumb.

Selene's eyes wandered to Walid who stood watching the door. Oakley followed her gaze and cleared his throat asking her again, "What are you thinking about?"

"I'm trying to figure out who wants to kill me." Selene's pupils were dilated in fear.

Oakley laughed, "Selene you can't be serious."

Selene's seriousness faltered off at his unseriousness. She bit her lip and deeply breathed, "What if I am?"

Her question spooked him, "It won't matter because he's protecting you now."

Selene's eyes widened when Oakley's gaze flickered to Walid. Walid tried his best not to interrupt their conversation and turned his attention towards the door.

"You can't give up your bodyguard for me."

Oakley grabbed her hand, "I can and I will. It's already been arranged."

She blushed feeling butterflies in her stomach, "Okay."

"Get some rest baby. We have a busy day tomorrow." Cench brushed his hand across her jaw.

Selene held her breath when he leaned in to kiss her. Her eyes fluttered closed relinquishing in the peck, a sign of intimacy and safety. Oakley pulled back quickly making his exit.

"Good night Oakley."

Cench bypassed Walid on his way out of the door. With a nod of satisfaction, Oakley left leaving Selene to her thoughts.

Walid stood against the wall watching as Selene spiraled. He knew the girl struggled with anxiety in the past but this was on a whole other level. The curtains blew lightly from the air conditioner and the thunder rattled outside her covered window.

"Selene, go to bed." He told her looking at his watch, 1 am.

She shook her head placing her head on her knees. Walid sighed as she began rocking back and forth, "I can't. I'm gonna die. I can feel it."

Walid uncrossed his arms breaking his stoic wall. "Selene. Look at me."

Her doe eyes met his dark ones and his heart skipped a beat. Walid stood steady steps and sat on the bed next to her. Selene could feel the heat radiating from his body. She wanted more of him but her gaze stayed on him.

"What's your dream been about?"

His question threw her off, "What?"

Walid kissed his teeth, "Knife or gun?"

Selene's conversation with Oakley flashed back in her brain, "When I was a little girl, my mother was a medium. She told me I'd die by my choices."

Selene rested her heavy head on his shoulder. Walid tried not to flinch at her touch that sent his skin on fire. Selene felt safe with him as she continued to speak.

"Ever since then, I've had these nightmares. Somebody lurking in the dark stabs me to death. Sometimes it's a gun."

Walid focused his attention forward, "You're not going to die."

"Have you seen death, Wadz?" Her voice was soft.

He gulped, "Yes. A lot of it."

For the first time in a long time, he had been worried about someone other than himself. He had even allowed her to call him, Wadz. He was screwed.

"Everybody get to their damn dressing room! That thunderstorm threw us off. No funny business!" Nadine pushed everyone inside the venue.

Selene held onto her duffle bag annoyed at the presence of fans. Star and Alex stood behind her as Walid made a path for them. Shouts and screams surrounded the girl group no matter how far they got from them.

Once inside, security guards escorted the group inside the stadium. Selene was so focused on getting to her chair that she hadn't noticed the dead roses and bloody knife on her seat.

"What the hell?" Alex gasped turning on the lights.

Walid stepped in front of them finally seeing the items. Selene held back a gag. She held onto Walid's bicep in fear.

"Give me your phone," Walid whispered in the quiet room.

"Why does she need to do that?" Star asked fanning her red face.

"Whoever your stalker is has been listening." He told the girls pulling out Selene's phone from her back pocket.

Selene looked from Walid to the knife, "He knows about my dreams. Knife or gun. You asked me that yesterday."

Selene rushed to the adjacent bathroom. She hovered over the toilet vomiting. With the wind knocked out of her she flushed the toilet with shaky hands. She turned the sink on and rinsed her mouth with water. She could hear Mrs. C and Walid arguing from behind the bathroom door.

"You better figure this out, boy. I'm not playing."

"It is my job to protect her not find out who's stalking her."

Mrs. C sighed, "Well that's your new task. Figure it out."

~

Refreshed and dressed in her customized stage outfit Selene flipped her hair in the mirror. She looked unaffected. Mrs. C grabbed her shoulder tenderly.

"Selene, I promise we're gonna figure this out, baby girl. I promise everything is gonna be okay." Mrs. C said sending her a smile.

Selene nodded grabbing her bottle of water and caffeine pills, "I know."

Walid watched as she downed the pills and sighed. She stretched her neck straightening her shoulders. Walid touched his earpiece gathering information from the security team.

"They're ready for you Selene. Remember,  I'll be right there with you."

Somehow Selene tried to believe that as she walked next to him. Her booted heels clicked against the floors. The fans backstage chilled her exposed stomach and blew her jacket slightly. She could hear the shouts from backstage.

"You sure you're okay to perform?" Alex questioned grabbing her mic.

Selene nodded, "Rent is due so let's get this money."

The crowd cheered as they appeared on stage. Selene felt alive forgetting about what happened thus far. She stayed in sync with Star and Alex moving her body just like they had practiced. Whoever was stalking her couldn't touch her here.
