In this industry, I learned to expect the unexpected...[Selene]

Selene stirred in her sleep feeling too warm. Oakley grunted next to her as she hit his stomach, "Sorry."

Oakley chuckled pulling her close. His lips kissed her bare shoulder, "You okay, love?"

She sighed, "I don't know."

The dark hotel room blurred her vision as she looked into the nothingness. Her heart continued to beat rapidly as her unease continued.

Oakley rubbed her arm sending butterflies down her spine, "Wanna talk about it, yeah?"

Selene turned her body towards him. Her eyes made out his in the darkness. She smiled leaning forward to kiss his lips. Oakley's arms snaked around her waist, "Don't change the subject."

She giggled, "I'm not."

"So what is it then?"

Selene sighed, "Have you heard from Walid?"

She couldn't see the tick of his jaw when he replied, "No why?"

Licking her lips she laid on her back, "Remember our show last week?"

"Which one, there was a lot?"

"The one where I came back. I immediately got this nagging feeling."

"Like intuition?"

Selene nodded, "Yeah. Like something's wrong."

Oakley laughed turning on his back and staring at the ceiling, "There's always something wrong with you."

Selene frowned merely disappointed that he would say something like that. She turned around hiding the desperation in her face. Sighing she closed her eyes, hoping that she would be able to fall asleep.

"Tug on it, Selene." Star coached the girl as she tried to lace up Star's corset.

"Girl, it ain't going nowhere," Selene told her pulling on the strings once more.

"She's just trynna make sure her titties look good since Noah is coming to the final show tonight," Alex spoke turning another page in her magazine.

Selene giggled tying the strings of Star's corset. She admired the cute white bow sitting in the middle of Star's back before turning to the girls, "I'm excited about this show."

"Yeah, we finally get to announce our new album!" Star whispered pulling the girls in for a hug.

Selene relished in the warmth before turning to her buzzing phone. Her eyes gleamed over noticing his name. Quickly, she snatched the device and held it up to her ear, "Hello."

His deep voice brought her intense comfort, "Hi, I just wanted to call you before the show. See how you're doing and all."

Selene tried to hide her smile, "I'm okay."

"You take any caffeine pills?"

"No. I'll be on that stage as myself." Selene's promises fell onto his ears.

"Good. Have you heard anything?"

Selene looked over her shoulder to her nosy friends who seemed to be more interested in her conversation, "Something felt familiar about being back. I couldn't put it together though. How have you been?"

Walid hesitated inhaling through his nose to keep from easing into her words, "I'm fine. I'm still trying to figure out who's behind this. I promise to catch them, okay?"

"Are you coming back soon?" Her voice trembled.

"Do you want me to?"

Before she could respond, Mrs. C came through the doors of their private dressing room, "Okay, ladies it's showtime!"

Selene wanted to roll her eyes already missing the sounds of Walid's voice, "I gotta go."

"Go do your thing. I'm only a phone call away."

Selene hit the red end button and took a deep breath. Mrs.C watched as the girls filed out of the room. Her eyes danced over their belongings ensuring that everything was intact before following them outside.

Selene walked next to Alex as they hurriedly made their way to the main stage. She smiled hearing the crowd roar. Her eyes flickered from the stagehands escorting them and making sure their set would run smooth.

She stopped in her place seeing a dark hoodie hanging over a rolling chair in the hallway. Her brain flashed images of her stabbing. The images of a dark hoodie clouded her mind. Selene held a hand to her chest and looked around. Noting seemed wrong.

Nadine came from the main stage staircase, "Selene! Hurry up, Alex and Star are waiting for you."

With buzzing ears, she shook the thoughts from her head, "Okay, sorry I got distracted."

Nadine scoffed ticking things off of her clipboard and turned towards the chair. Selene watched as she picked up the hoodie and swung it over her shoulder.

"Here's your mic, Selene." A stagehand with calloused and cold hands passed her a microphone.

She looked up and flinched from the tone of his voice, "Thanks."

The cheers from the crowd took her away from her racing thoughts. Alex bumped her shoulder, "You okay?"

Selene nodded, "I will be."
