Chapter 2-The Pepper Spray & The Knee

Miranda Barone's POV

I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen cautiously. I didn't know if Alexi was still mad about me not staying with him.

It took me ages to find the kitchen in his huge house and he had many bodyguards around. I frowned, I didn't like the idea that my only family could be in danger, hence the bodyguards.

Today was the first day of work and i entered the kitchen to see Alexi waiting for me. He straightened up when he caught sight of me and sighed heavily.

"I am not going to apologise for yelling at you last night. I am still not happy about you not living here with me where it is safe. But Christopher is right. You are an adult. And he told me you have promised him that you would not go near Slade Kolosov. So as a peace offering, here, this is for you. Also my men would help you to move your many boxes into your home later on when you are at work and help you set up everything over the weekend."

He passed me a set of car keys and my eyes widened. "You got me a car?" I asked excitedly. My brother grinned and shrugged, "It's not exactly a car, more like a MPV. It's waiting outside."

I hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek, "Thank you so much Alexi! I know you're just looking out for me and I thank you for that. I promise you that I have a can of pepper spray and brass knuckles in my purse in case anything happens."

Alexi rolled his eyes and his lips lifted into a smile. "Alright. Better go for work or you will be late." I beamed at him and grabbed the keys and hurried out of the mansion as soon as I saw the time.

I groaned as I got into the vehicle. Oh man, I loved the new car smell and the leather felt really soft. Man I really love Alexi. I quickly started the car and drove off.

"You must be Miss Barone. I am Mrs. Jenkins. But you can call me Hannah." A middle aged lady came towards me and shook my hand. I gave her a bright smile, "I prefer Mel. It's easier to pronounce. Miranda Barone doesn't have any nice nicknames and it's quite a mouthful."

Hannah nodded and smiled and showed me to my classroom. "I am truly sorry that you had to start work today but we are really understaffed. The form teacher of this class, Ms Elliot had to leave for Russia on such short notice to care for distant relatives."

I shook my head and smiled, "It's fine. I enjoy teaching children. How many students will I be having?"

"Twenty. All of them are very nice and well behaved children. You should not have a problem." Hannah beamed and I found myself nodding enthusiastically along with her. She had that nice welcoming effect that made people instantly like her.

"Oh look. Your first few students are here. I had better check on some of mine as well. I'll see you around Mel." Hannah quickly went to greet her students and I figured I'll do the same. "Where's Miss Elliot?" A small voice spoke out and I looked down to see an adorable little boy with bright blue eyes and curly brown hair tugging on my skirt.
