Chapter 21-The Almost Fiancé

Miranda Barone's POV

I towelled my hair dry as I came out from the washroom and stopped when I saw several men in the apartment. Mark caught my eye and he bounded over to me a bag of potato chips in his hand, "Hey Princess."

"What's going on?" I asked warily as I spotted Erik pulling out several knives from the kitchen. "Nothing out of the ordinary. Want a chip?" Mark offered and I shook my head, "Really what's going on?"

Mark sighed and popped another chip into his mouth. "Apparently, your friend, Christopher Callavo appeared downstairs earlier and threatened to bring the whole building down with him unless Slade released you and well Kolosov wasn't really happy about it."

My eyes widened, "Where's Chris?" I asked concerned. I knew Slade didn't really like Christopher. Well perhaps the more appropriate term was hatred or resentment. "In there."

Mark pointed to the study where two burly tall men were standing outside blocking or guarding the doors. I immediately brushed past Mark and headed towards the study.

The two body guards eyed me passively and I scowled at them. "I'm going in there. And if the both of you stop me, I'm going to go bat-shit crazy on the both of you with my pepper spray. You got that?" I threatened and the two men eyed me with amusement without moving.

It couldn't be that easy to enter could it? I tested it out as I neared the door and none of them stopped me. Huh, maybe I really was intimidating. I smirked smugly to myself before opening the door and I stopped.

The first thing I saw was Chris being held down to the ground by two men and Slade toying with several knives on his desk.

My entrance caused everyone to look at me. Slade narrowed his eyes at me and placed the knife back onto his desk. "Mel, what are you doing here? And how did you get in?"

"Your bodyguards let me in. What are you doing with Christopher?" I questioned as Christopher observed us. Slade cursed in Russian and yelled something that sounded really rude towards the two men guarding the door.

Christopher swung his eyes towards me, "Mel what are you doing? Run! Get out now that you can!" Slade raised an eyebrow and I bit my lip and turned to Slade. "Let go of him."

"No."

"What are you even planning on doing to him?" I demanded and Slade glared at me. "Mel. Get out." I crossed my arms and stared him down challengingly. "I'm not leaving. Let Christopher go. He's my friend."

Slade snorted before snarling, "He's not your friend. He was almost betrothed to you!" A tiny smile twitched onto my lips. "Slade please. He's like another brother. Just at least release him. Christopher is just looking out for me. I've known him since I was little."
