On my way home, all I could think about was my stupid interview with Richard Maranzano. I don't know if I can do it, I mean it's a lot and I don't even like Richard Maranzano - I basically hate him and the last thing I would want to do is work with him. It's almost like helping him out, I certainly can not do that.
Walking through the front door, I flung my bag onto the couch and caught sight of Rebecca indulging in a heaping bowl of popcorn. "Hey, welcome back! How'd your interview go?" she inquired with genuine curiosity.
I didn't respond right away, instead sinking into the softness of the couch, my head nestled against the headrest.
Her voice took on a sympathetic tone as she approached me, gently rubbing my back for comfort. "You didn't get the job, did you?" she asked, her voice tinged with sadness. "Don't worry, there are plenty of other opportunities out there. You'll find something amazing."
With a heavy sigh, I lifted my head and met her concerned gaze. "I got the job," I admitted, my voice muffled by the headrest.
Her eyes widened in surprise. "You what?"
I nodded, a mix of relief and disbelief washing over me. "I got the job."
A wide smile spread across Rebecca's face, her excitement palpable. "No way! That's incredible!" she exclaimed, unable to contain her joy. "I'm so happy for you!"
"You shouldn't be happy for me, if there is anything you should be is sad.... very sad because this is terrible."
Curiosity filled Rebecca's voice as she asked, "Why is it terrible?"
"Because it's not what I wanted. I was hoping for a good job as a personal assistant with a decent salary, but..." I trailed off.
Interrupting me, she quickly asked, "Did they reduce your salary?"
"No, or at least I don't know yet. But that's not the main issue. It's about my boss," I explained.
"Did he hit on you?" she questioned.
"No," I responded.
"Does he want to have sex with you?"
"Why is that the first thing that comes to mind?" I asked, slightly taken aback.
"Because it seems like the only explanation. If it's not about the salary, then it must be about sex," she stated matter-of-factly.
"Well, it's actually something different,"
Her eyes widened with curiosity. "Then what is it?"
I took a deep breath and blurted out, "My boss is Richard Maranzano."
Rebecca gasped, her shock evident on her face. "What?!"
I nodded, confirming her surprise. "Yes, it's true."
She leaned in closer, her voice filled with excitement. "Oh my god! It's like a movie plot! You hate him, and then you end up working with him, and boom... love blossoms!"
I couldn't help but laugh at her wild imagination. "You're being delusional, Rebecca. I am definitely not working with him. I just can't do that."
"You can and you will," Rebecca insisted.
"I can't and I won't," I replied.
"Absolutely not! You've been searching for a job, and now that you've finally found one, you can't quit just because of him," she argued.
