The sunny spring air enveloped the school grounds as Wooyoung made his way to the guidance counselor's office. He remembers sitting there with his parents last semester, that was no fun.
Over the past few months, he had made a remarkable improvement in his academic performance. Together with feeling better and his regular meeting with San, his grades had soared, and he had managed to attend classes regularly, achieving a commendable 98% attendance rate for this semester.
Entering the guidance counselor's office, Wooyoung was greeted by a warm smile. Mr. Park, the counselor, had been witnessing Wooyoung's transformation and was genuinely impressed.
"Hey, Wooyoung! Take a seat," Mr. Park gestured toward a chair. "I've been looking at your recent progress, and I must say, it's remarkable. Your grades have skyrocketed, and your attendance has been outstanding."
Wooyoung, with a sense of pride, took a seat. "Thanks, Mr. Park. I've been working hard to turn things around."
Mr. Park nodded, "Well, you've certainly succeeded. Your efforts haven't gone unnoticed. Your academic achievements have caught the attention of the teachers, and they commend your dedication."
Wooyoung smiled, appreciating the acknowledgment. "It feels good to hear that. I've come a long way since the beginning of the year."
Mr. Park leaned forward, a more serious tone in his voice. "Now that you're on the right track, have you given any thought to your future, Wooyoung? Graduation is approaching, and it's time to consider your next steps."
Wooyoung pondered the question for a moment. The future, a concept that had often felt distant and uncertain, now demanded his attention. He contemplated the possibilities that lay ahead, a mix of excitement and trepidation in his gaze.
"I...I haven't really figured it all out yet," Wooyoung admitted, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. "But I know I want to do something meaningful, something that feels right for me. I know it's a bit outside of my major, but I've always wanted to do something with dance or cooking."
Mr. Park nodded understandingly. "That's a good starting point. Explore your interests, think about what makes you happy, and consider your strengths. The future is a vast canvas, and you have the chance to paint it with your aspirations."
Wooyoung absorbed Mr. Park's words, a newfound sense of determination in his eyes. The journey toward self-discovery had just begun, and as he prepared to graduate at the end of the year, Wooyoung felt a renewed sense of purpose, eager to embrace the opportunities that awaited him.
Tonight marked the night of the dreaded benefit gala. Wooyoung reminisced about the somewhat unusual dinner he had with his parents just a few nights ago, wondering if everything was back on track between his parents.
During that recent dinner, they were sharing a meal again, and Sue had done her best – the aroma of the delicious main course wafted through the air as Wooyoung cut into it. He gave Sue a well-meant compliment and she smiled at him.
Suddenly, his father excused himself due to a pressing phone call, swiftly walking away. As he departed, Wooyoung's mother mumbled something under her breath. It was the first time he ever heard his mom curse at his father, a moment that caught Wooyoung off guard.
In an attempt to be insightful and supportive, Wooyoung asked his mom, "Is everything well?" She unveiled the strains in their relationship, revealing, "He cheated on me! With the cheap secretary, no less! Ugghhh... how classic. No worries, though; I fired her." She raged to Wooyoung, her face brooding with anger.
His mother also admitted that they needed more time for each other, acknowledging his father's infidelity, stating they needed to rebuild trust. Wooyoung couldn't help but find it slightly comical – after all, they were consistently together 24/7 for their work, and now they needed to carve out extra time for each other? However, he refrained from commenting.
