It was the day of Ostara and I was meeting with the elders. They decided to go through with the spell to combine the realm and the Otherside. The Elders decided they wanted to meet me and discuss the spell. I walked in and they were there sitting at a large table. Seven of them. Five women and two men. I only knew Miss Toni, Bastianna and Agnes. Not a lot of welcoming feelings in the room. Apprehension. Anger. Hatred. Fear. "You called for me. I assume that means you have something to say."
"So disrespectful." Bastiana spat.
"You're not my Grams. Or even Josephine. Her, I respect. All I feel are some witches that are weaning in power, desperate to recharge, then looking down on me for no damn reason." I sneered.
"We don't mean to come off condescending, child." Agnes tried to be the 'voice of reason'.
"Then don't call me a child. Let's just get to the meat of things. You need to renew your power. I have a way to do that without killing four teenage girls. Now first off, I want to let you know I truly have no problem with the Harvest, the girls want it and if they go into it knowing they will be killed. Throats slit, blood spilling, killed. But, the loose lips of your witches are the reason it's not possible. If you go through with the Harvest you will give the vampires a weapon to control witches. I'm not lying to you. I have no need to. So go through with it." I leaned back in my chair and crossed my legs.
"Who spoke of the Harvest?" I thought about it. I knew that witches could be cruel and their punishments harsh. But the other option was not an option at all. The few for the many.
"As the Quarter's worst kept secret, we all know Sophie Deveraux has been having a relationship with Marcel Gerard. Well she hates you all so she just loves to spill coven secrets as pillow talk. Now I think it's hilarious because I was accused when the man talked to me twice in public. Now I am not currently a French Quarter witch and I have no need to do things in the dark." I stopped myself before I started on a rant.
"How do you know the Otherside will accept our ancestors?"
"Because I'm in contact with its creator. She's taught me a lot of what I know." There was silence. A realization of my power, I suppose. Or my line. "Will your ancestors help? This is going to take a lot of power and we don't have another major celestial event for another year or so."
"We will commune with them. How many witches would you need?"
"Eleven of your strongest. I'll also have my sister's help. She's quite powerful and she can channel me. Vincent would be preferable and any Morels you have around. You can choose the others. Except no Sabine Laurent. No Deveraux's." I didn't really have a problem with Jane-Anne but I didn't exactly know her either. Which meant I didn't trust her. And she wouldn't trust me after whatever punishment the coven would choose to give her.
"Jane-Anne is one of our strongest."
"And will she be so willing to work with me after whatever you have planned for Sophie for betraying you?" More silence. I rolled my eyes. These women annoyed me. "So like I said. Okay cool. We'll do it on the next full moon. That should get you enough time to get your ancestors on board. I've heard they can be quite the fickle bunch. So glad mine aren't like that." I got up from the table and left.
Vincent was waiting for me outside the door. "Where is Josephine?" I asked him.
"She had an appointment and she couldn't make it. All is well?" I nodded.
"Next full moon."
Three weeks later, we had another huge problem solved. Well, kind of. Something in me, after it was done, knew that things weren't over. I actually might have done a bad thing. Even if Qetsiyah and Morgan agreed that I would do it. Speaking of Morgan, she appeared in New Orleans the night before the spell. "How's it going?" she asked me. I was walking out of a metaphysical shop. I wanted to create protection amulets for myself so I wouldn't leave any magic with the other witches and they couldn't use my magic except for what I wanted.
