The obnoxious blare of a car horn interrupted the soft tune being played by the driver, as the black Cadillac sat in traffic. Angel took a deep breath at the multiple drivers that just couldn't seem to follow the simple rules of the road, and turned her head to gaze out of the window beside her. Once their car began moving again, the vehicles on either side of them whizzed by just as they had before.
But, while Angel saw the familiar inner city neighborhoods turn brighter with lights of tall business buildings, and the bustle of cars, her breath slowed. Oh no. To make sure she wasn't thinking the worst, she averted her eyes to the windshield and her head followed the street signs as the Uber passed by the turn she would make if she was going to Daniel's house. Shit.
"Tali, not you brought me to his side of town." Angel rolled her eyes as she peered over at her best-friend, whose face was buried in her phone. The stylish young lady stopped typing on her iPhone and looked over at her friend, who was gazing at her with concern all over her face.
"Girl, ain't nobody worried about that nigga but you." She dismissed her, turning back to her text conversation. But the car stayed silent, and Angel kept her stature the same, as all she could think about was seeing Daniel. After pressing the bright blue send button, Talia gave Angel her attention once again, realizing that the possibility of seeing her ex was beginning to get to her sister.
"Look," She began, placing her phone face down on her lap. "What's the worst that can happen if you see him? Ya'll talk?" Angel shakes her head at the uncertainty, and glances away before looking back into Talia's eyes.
"If we talk...what do I say to him? Huh? I- I don't think I'm ready for that." Angel's eyes gloss over, and Talia sighs, reaching forward to place a hand on her thigh, her demeanor softening.
"And if not, you don't have to. Honestly, it was a coincidence that the club I picked is so close to where he be at. Who knows...maybe we won't see him." The emotional woman blinks back the sting that reached her eyes, and rubs her lips together to smooth out her lipgloss.
"Yeah..."
When they finally pull up to the club, there is a line around the side of the establishment. Women in sneakers and heels alike stood with their friends just waiting for a chance to get in and enjoy, holding their clutches tight in their hands. But, when Angel and Talia stepped out of their Uber Black, the bouncer spotted them instantly.
The eyes of everybody who was on the outside of the club followed the two beautiful women, sizing up their stature and outfits. Angel's walk was laced in some black palazzo pants which fell over her black, kitten-heeled sandals. A black laced bralette adorned her chest, covered by a matching chiffon vest that tied over her toned stomach.
Talia stepped in some black, leather thigh-high heels, and a matching pair of ponte mini-shorts to flatter her thicker thighs. A sleeveless, cropped turtleneck in a bright yellow color played on a jersey design, with the number '31' embroidered on the front, leaning into her more tomboy style. VVS diamonds graced each of her wrists, in the form of cuban link bracelets and a gaudy designer watch.
The two women were obviously nothing to play with, and as they sauntered to the door of the club in harmony, the bouncer was already taking the rope from its post. Bright smiles were flashed his way in thanks, and they joined arms as they left the dimly lit sidewalk and stepped into the colorful lights of nightlife. True blues, candy pinks, and deep reds took turns illuminating the dancing bodies in the space, and sensual hip-hop music blared from the speakers.
