This poem was another for my Creative Writing class. we were tasked with writing about cliches, basically in order to learn how to use them properly without sounding too...cliche, I guess. I chose to focus on the specific saying, "Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place". What is between them? This poem explores that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What sits between a rock and a hard place?
Is it two lovebirds or cats that like tongues?
Do birds of a feather flock together, or do they prefer bees?
Maybe there are clouds with only silver linings.
What happens between a rock and a hard place?
Are there only dark and stormy nights?
does the time prefer to tell or fly?
Maybe people bite bullets and dust.
Who lives between a rock and a hard place?
A Cat that is out of the bag?
A person with eyes in the back of their head?
Maybe a fish out of water, reeling for compliments.
How do we get between a rock and a hard place?
having the last laugh, or holding our horses?
Do we have to be in a jam, a jiffy, or a nutshell?
Maybe it's just a hop, skip and a jump away.
What is the rock? What is the hard place?
Is it written on the walls?
Are they things we only dream of?
Maybe they aren't something we want to dream of.
