Lover's Quarrell

I wrote this poem ALSO for my Creative Writing class. Lover's Quarrell is not a free verse poem, however, it is a villanelle; this kind of poem has a specific rhyme scheme, stanza structure, and stressed syllable count. this poem is lax on the stressed syllables, but everything else is correct. I like this poem specifically because of how relatable it is to people in love.

What say you, my love?

Is there a reason you ache

In this beating heart you speak of?

Did you forget that I forgive?

Or do you yearn to hit the brakes?

What say you, my love?

Am I the hand to fit your glove?

Or am I the one that left agape

This beating heart you speak of?

It seems you're the only one above

Recalling all our numbered days

What say you, my love?

Do you wish to release my dove

Away from all the wooden stakes

In this beating heart you speak of?

Alas, I keep your love among

All the selfish things I take

What say you, my love?

Is this the beating heart you speak of?
