Chapter Eleven | Peter met Wendy
2010~~~
Azalea Sinclair-Beaumont, going as Azalea Sinclair in racing, started karting when she was 9 years old. Since the time she got hold of her own go-kart, nothing was able to stop her since then. Now, representing the French flag and driving with the number 6, the young 12 year old just finished one of her biggest race in junior karting.
As Azalea got out of her kart, she could hear the different claps and cheers of the people around her— though it's not for her but for the winners. Last race for KF3 karting, and she just finished fourth overall which is not bad considering the condition of her current go-kart, but it was still a good pace. Azalea was not from a well off family, and knowing that her parents—more of her mother— are barely able to make ends meet and support her karting career, she tries her absolute best to do great every race.
Anika Beaumont, neé Sinclair, was a lovely woman and the best mother Azalea could ask for. After marrying her husband, she gave birth to Azalea in Cuba but went with her husband back to France. Since the very first time the young driver declared her want to wish and passion to drive, the Cuban woman did her best to help her daughter achieve her dreams. Though it was quite though road to achieve due to her husband, this didn't stop the mother-daughter duo to work together to enter the Motorsport world. Three years later since 2007, Azalea has achieved so much through those years—one can say that she was made for this career.
Though Azalea hasn't gained any people to sponsor her karting career, this didn't stop the young driver to continue and do better with her passion. At such a short time of karting, she was able to secure multiple wins through those years. Some days though, it doesn't work to her favor—this weekend was one of those. Azalea almost secured third place, unfortunately, she messed up in one corner and lost some time.
Though she felt disappointed with her results, that sadness was immediately forgotten when she heard the loud shouts of her mother's—who's jumping up and down cheerfully. "Mamá, stop it." Azalea called out with an embarrassed face.
"Eh, why? I'm proud of my daughter, the rest can suck it."
"Mamá!" Azalea shyly cried out, to which her mother could only laughed at. "Okay, okay. Voy a parar, mi vida." Her mother gave her a big hug, knowing that her daughter is a little sad of the results today. "I'm proud of you, mi vida."
"Gracias Mamá,"
As the mother-daughter were having a heart-to-heart conversation, they couldn't help but hear some hushed argument to their left. Azalea look at the owners of the voices, she saw a father seemingly scolding his son with a scowl spread across his face. The boy was looking down, seemingly embarrassed by the situation, but his eyes had the same flame of anger his father contains. "If you think being in second is enough to have a place in this sport, then best believe you'll be driving a tractor at a farm later on."
The father walked away in anger, and the mom and daughter can't help but feel sympathy for the boy. Seemingly feeling the pair of eyes looking at him, Max looked up and saw a woman giving him a comforting smile while holding her daughter. The young 13-year-old gave a small smile back to the woman before meeting eyes with her daughter. He recognized her, how could he not?
Walking towards them, Max kept his gaze towards the girl before stopping in front of her. "Uhm, hi. Nice race by the way, you drove well." he uttered softly.
"My name's Max Versta—"
"Verstappen? I know. The name's Azalea. Azalea Sinclair. This is my mother, Anika."
"Congratulations on the win!" the girl smiled wildly as she offered a handshake. Max looked at the arm stretched out for him to take, he hesitantly took it and shook her hand. "I don't really think I'd consider being second a winning position,"
"¿por qué no? ¡Estuviste increíble ahí fuera!"
"Pardon?"
Taken a back by the sudden change of language, Max nervously looked at Azalea for help. The girl only laughed at his panicked look, before explaining her mother's words. "She asked, why not? Said, you drove incredibly today—which I agree."
"You should be celebrating and happy,"
"I don't think I was that incredible, but thank you for the kind words." he sheepishly smiled.
