Sayde took her time climbing the stairs back to her room after eating the meal prepared by Mrs. Bonny. While they were eating she had seen Mr. Bonny head up the stairs hopefully to her room to check out the window.
She met Mr. Bonny on the way down, "I didn't see anything wrong with the windows in your room Miss Bloom but I installed a secondary locking device on your window just so you feel safe."
She smiled and thanked him very much for his help before quickly scurrying up the stairs to go lay on her bed.
She sent a quick text to Trish asking about the progress. It was taking a little longer than she had anticipated. Today was day three and she wanted to move out of the bed and breakfast before the week was done.
She spent the day mostly lazing about, Trish said that she would get back to her as soon as possible, something about reading through a contract and hiring an inspector before closing the deal.
She sighed in frustration, she could get through a few more days, maybe she'd ask Mrs Bonny if she needed any help. She hadn't seen any people in the bed and breakfast besides her but it wasn't like she was looking for them either.
So far things seemed to be going smoothly albeit slower than she intended. She yawned a bit and then stared up at the ceiling before drifting off for an afternoon nap.
She was awoken by the sound of low growls and scratching coming from somewhere outside, The growls were deep and primal, sending shivers down her spine.
She sat up in bed, her senses on high alert. Her room was dimly lit by the soft glow of her phone screen, casting long shadows across the walls. The time read 8:26 PM, but time seemed irrelevant in moments like these.
Carefully, she reached for the lamp, the familiar click bringing a small sense of comfort. The dim light barely lit the room but was enough to let her see where she was going, the ominous sounds ceased, leaving behind an eerie silence.
Sayde hesitated for a moment before mustering the courage to approach the window. With cautious steps, she made her way across the room, her heart pounding in her chest like a war drum.
Peering through the curtains, she was met with a sight that sent a chill down her spine. Two pairs of bright green eyes stared back at her, the intensity of their eyes pierced through the darkness. She gasped, instinctively taking a step back.
Her mind raced, trying to make sense of what she was seeing. As if sensing her fear, the creatures let out another low growl, the clouds covering the moon and the trees rustling in the distance. Sayde's breath caught in her throat as she realised the gravity of the situation.
She quickly closed the curtains, her hands trembling slightly. She didn't know what was outside, they looked like wolves but much larger, maybe it was a trick of the light or the way the dim light reflected on them but Sayde knew she had to tread carefully not to alert the animals that she was there.
She quickly put on a pair of shoes and hurried downstairs, her heart running through her chest in fear. She bumped into Mrs Bonny on the landing. "Is everything alright Miss Bloom?" she looked over at her concern etched on her face.
Sayde steadied herself, her breaths coming in quick gasps as she relayed what she had seen to Mrs Bonny. "There are... creatures outside. Wolves, I think, but they seemed unnaturally large, and their eyes... their eyes were so intense," she explained, her voice trembling with fear.
Mrs. Bonny's expression shifted to one of concern as she listened attentively.
"Wolves around here?" she muttered, more to herself than to Sayde. "We haven't had any reports of them in a while, are you sure?"
