We continued talking and eating pizza when I got a phone call from my mum.
"Hey guys my mums calling I'll be back." I got a few mumbles in response and I went inside for the call.
Sam's pov:
Mads just went inside because her mum called and Sof has a sad or scared expression I can't quite tell.
"Sof are you alright you look a bit sad?" Colby asked. I guess he was thinking the sam as me. Sof looked zoned out and deep in thought. "Sof?" still no response "Sofia are you alright you look sad?" he asked again waving his hand in front of her face which luckily got her focused again. She looked at us confused. "are you ok you look sad and deep in thought?" Colby asked for the third time.
"Nah yeah I'm fine I just don't think Maddy will be because her mum rarely calls her." she said. She was clearly worried for her best friend and so we didn't want to push any more questions on why her mum never calls her.
As if on cue Madelyn walked out, tears streaming down her face. No one seemed to notice and she didn't say anything so I thought she wanted to be left alone so I gave her a small smile letting her know I can see her tears and she returned on.
Madelyn's pov:
I walked inside butterflies in my stomach. I normally would be ok if my mum called me if it was when we first moved to LA but over the past couple months she's been very distant because my dad has cancer and she wanted to focus on getting him healthy, seeing as she's a nurse. Which I totally respect. She's doing everything in her power to get him back on his feet. So when she calls it means either two things, he's getting better or he's getting worse.
"Hey mum! Are you alright? Please tell me its good news." I said. Hope in my voice but all hope I had was lost when I heard sadness in my mums voice.
"Hey honey, sadly no good news." I can tell she's been sobbing. "he's been given a week and he can hardly talk. But what he did manage to get out was your name and we asked if he wanted to see you and he said yes. So the reason I was calling was to ask you to come back home for a few weeks, Sofia too, and spend his last couple days with him, maybe sing him a song or two I've got your old guitar still." tears were streaming down my face.
"Um for sure. I'm just at a mate's house right now but i'll book the tickets home now and I'll get the soonest flight. My mates I'm with might want to come and meet you is it ok if they come but stay in a hotel?" I asked a bit hopeful because I need them there we have grown so close already.
"Yeah of course whatever helps you. While you're down you can meet up with old friends too." she sounded so sad it broke my heart "alright sweetie I have to go but I'll see you soon. Love you" once she hung up I went outside, trying to make it look like I wasn't crying and no one noticed but when I looked at sam he was looking at me and gave me a soft smile which I returned.
"Sofia it's gotten worse he's got a week left. My mum sounded like she was tired and had been crying. She tried everything she could but nothing worked." those words coming out of my mouth made me start sobbing. I felt a two pairs of arms wrap around me which I recognised as ben and Sofia and they left me cry into them. When I calmed down I turned to everyone "I'm so sorry about that but me and Sofia need to go back to Australia because my dad's got cancer and he only has a week left to live. My mum said that I can bring any mates if I need so I was wondering if you wanted to come with us? All of you."
"Yeah sure we would love to. But what do you mean when you call us 'mates' because I know is something from Australia but what do you mean?" Kevin asked. I completely forgot they don't call their friends 'mates' it's alright I'll just tell them what it means.
"I forgot you don't call each other 'mate' and stuff but when I say "mates" I mean friends. Sorry for confusing you" I clarified. I decided to make an insta post saying I'm going to Australia and won't be posting for a while due to family issues. I have to use an old photo though. "I'm going to make a post on insta saying I won't post for a while do you mind getting hotels and plane tickets.?" I turned to Sofia who nodded her head in return.
