Letters:
Dear guard,
I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Alice. No last name. And I'd like to have a talk.
–Alice, your new friend
Dear Ms. Alice,
My new friend, I was wondering why you requested paper from the day-shift guard. You may refer to me as Quin. Nelly Quin, for that is my first and last name. What is it you wish to discuss?
–Nelly Quin, your new friend.
Dear Mr. Quin,
I wish you to defend me in court. I know, it must seem direct, but then again, it seems to be a recurring trait used to describe me. And I have one good reason why, if I may say so myself.
I am innocent.
Yes, it may not seem so. Yes, all evidence in the investigation of the death of His Majesty Emerald pointed towards me. But I was not his murderer. Plus, it's boring inside this cell, believe me.
–Alice
Alice,
Dear, I cannot defend you in court. The queen's dead father, former king, died by your hand. The queen would perceive it as betrayal. I have been loyal to the new queen since before her coronation day! Besides, you cannot simply claim your innocence without proof.
–Nelly Quin
Dear Mr. Quin,
All the more reason she'd trust and believe you. You were an undercover spy for four years, correct? You're quite famous, you know. You would be used to it... I'm confident in your skills.
–Alice
Dear Ms. Alice,
Those are four years of my life that I wish to forget. I lost time with my family, my son was born in those years, and I missed it. My wife and I separated following my return.... Frankly, I have no idea why I'm telling you all this. It's truly none of your business.
But my final answer, it's no. I have a good job, I'm happy with it, and I can't have you ruin it.
–Nelly Quin
Dear Mr. Quin,
Okay, you don't believe me? What if I reward you? Everyone likes a reward... Ms. Quin, would money satisfy you? I have plenty of that?. Or perhaps you're more of a family guy... how would you feel about a reunion with... your sons? Maybe your ex-wife, too? Maybe if you could help me gain freedom, you can have your family back...?
–Alice
Dear Ms. Alice,
This is... a possibility. But then, I'd be setting a murderer free.
–Nelly Quin
Dear Mr. Quin,
Ah, good. I was beginning to think you weren't going to respond after all that time, and we have no minutes to waste, if you do assist in setting me free.
And are we still on that? I thought we had gone over this, I was not the murderer! And I have evidence to prove it, if you're willing to listen...
–Alice
Dear Ms. Alice,
I give you permission to share.
–Nelly Quin
Dear Mr. Quin,
I have a letter sealed in the pocket of the coat you ruffians took from me when I was unlawfully arrested. Go find it, read it, then slide it into the cell please.
–Alice
Dear Ms. Alice,
This is, yes, proof, and quite strong proof. But how can I be sure you didn't make it to avoid punishment? Perhaps you wrote it, and not this friend? Perhaps you're the villain, and your friend is innocent? It is written in your document that you are an only child with a single mother who never sent you to school, and lived isolated in the woods. There's no way you knew this person. I'm sorry, but I cannot speak for you. Not even for such a convincing award, nor such good evidence.
And here is the letter, as well, under your request:
–Nelly Quin
Dear Mr. Quin,
I understand. I apologize for bothering you on this quiet night. But I do hope tomorrow you learn not to trust so easily...
–Alice
Dear Ms. Alice,
Perhaps I shall. I wish you a good night.
–Nelly Quin
