prologue
big guyY/N POV
A hand slams down on my desk. The loud voice that shouts in my ear immediately tells me who it belongs to. "Quit slacking, Y/N!" Alex demands. He was basically my partner in crime, except for the crime part. We both worked as police officers at Big City's police department. "We've got a new crime to solve!" He smacks me in the head with a small stack of papers.
"Ugh," I groan. I lift my head from my desk and look up at Alex. He always wore a tie, never seemed to tie it though. It always just rested on his shoulders, undone. His dress shirt always had the two top buttons undone, and if you pointed it out, he'd just smile at you-- well, maybe just me, because I was the only one to ever point it out. It depended on the day, but sometimes he had really noticeable beauty marks, other days they weren't really seen. And of course, how could I forget. His LAPD beanie, he had a fire department one (which he got when some firefighters saved him from a fire one time), but nowadays he only wore his police department one. He had black (maybe very, very dark brown) pokey hair that stuck out from underneath his beanie and he had very pretty chocolate colored eyes.
Alex snaps his fingers, forcing my eyes to break away from his own. "I can catch you staring, sweetheart," He exaggerates his sigh. "And I don't blame you. But right now, we gotta focus on this scandal" He chuckles and waves off my behavior as 'normal'. I will admit, his charming attitude made him attractive. But I did not like him.
I scoff and roll my eyes. "What do we have to do?" I ask him. It was late and I didn't want to be here, it was about nine pm and I wanted to sleep. I overworked myself a lot, I'm aware I do. No one seems to care though. Well, Alex does. Sometimes he notices how my blinks last over two minutes and he lets me sleep in his chair while he reads about the case we are working on together. Alex was a good friend. Even if I found him annoying every hour of the day.
"It's nothing big, but we got a call about a possible drug trade going on at 12th Street. So we should head over there now" He tells me. "Oh, and these papers are for you. I printed off some info. It's about the crypto scandal we were told to watch" He adds, setting down the papers on my desk. "Alright, now let's head out!" He points a finger in the air as he spins on his heel and walks away from my desk. I huff and place my hands on my desk. I push myself up out of my seat before grabbing my jacket off the back of my chair and following behind Alex.
Alex and I both get in his police car. He liked to be the driver, I think he found some sort of comfort in it. I dunno. I tug at my police jacket, adjusting it so it's comfortable on my body. I buckle my seatbelt (because if I didn't, Alex wouldn't drive). Alex pulls out of his parking space and speeds off into the streets. "What was the street name again?" I press the siren button for him since he always seems to forget.
"12th Street, y'know.. the one with that nice little shop in the middle of it?" Alex reminds me. He glances at me for a second before returning his eyes to the road. "When was the last time you slept?" His tone had a hint of concern in it, but I didn't want him to pity me. Last time I replied honestly to this question he locked me in Sam's office (Sam was the captain of our police department).
